This Hulu add on is mainly attractive for getting HBO Max with ads at a low monthly price, especially for people trying to stack it with Amex streaming credits. The strongest upside is the potential to keep Hulu billing in play while trimming out of pocket cost, and the Hulu app itself is preferred over HBO's app by some. The catch is that the promo is finicky, often requiring Hulu billing and a qualifying base plan, and it frequently jumps to $9.99 or fails to combine with the $5 Disney and Hulu bundle. Ads are heavy, and the plan does not include 4K.
The Amex Blue Cash Everyday terms can allow up to a $7 monthly statement credit for eligible streaming purchases billed through DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com, or Plus.espn.com.
The Hulu-based HBO Max add-on can be priced at $2.99 per month for 12 months when the offer eligibility and billing path match the promotion requirements.
The deal can be workable for some existing subscribers by using an offer shown inside the HBO account rather than relying on the Hulu bundle path.
Hulu app access can be preferable for some viewers because the Hulu app does not disrupt the Apple TV default UI the way HBO and Disney apps do.
The $3/month HBO Max add-on can fail to apply when Hulu is billed through Disney+ or when the Disney/Hulu bundle is used first.
The HBO Max add-on price can show as $9.99 instead of the advertised $3 when adding it to a $4.99 Hulu/Disney+ bundle.
The ad-supported HBO Max tier can include very frequent ads that appear about every five minutes and last just over a minute.
The ad-supported HBO Max offering can exclude 4K and Dolby Vision at the lower promotional price point.

i've got the everyday card, not blue though :-/
regardless, this deal is tempting for me, bc I HATE HBO's app, and much prefer Hulu's app (unlike HBO and disney and AMC, the hulu app doesn't mess with the apple tv default UI).

edit: Sadly, the page has been updated to bundles and add-ons only. I guess there's no Hulu standalone deal this year. âšī¸
