Community Reviews
This is a strong price on the WD Black SN850X 2TB, a fast Gen4 NVMe drive with onboard DRAM and TLC flash that sits near the Samsung 990 Pro for everyday use. The drive has a solid reliability track record in long-term use, and the no heatsink version is easy to pair with a separate cooler if needed. The main catch is Walmart pricing and fulfillment, which can vary by store, zip code, and shipping versus pickup, with some orders getting canceled or stuck. A good value if you can find the right local listing.
Shoppers who can check nearby stores for pickup, because local stock and store selection can unlock the listed price when shipping stalls.
PC builders adding fast game storage, because it has onboard DRAM and performs like a high-end Gen4 TLC drive for everyday workloads.
Laptop upgraders with an open M.2 slot, because it installs cleanly and has held up for years with heavy writes.
People wanting a reliable 2TB SSD for photos and files, because the drive is described as a solid brand choice and a quality storage option.
Buyers depending on smooth home delivery, because shipping orders can sit stuck or get canceled when local stock runs out.
People who need a built-in heatsink for a PS5 install, because this model does not include one and requires a separate purchase.
Users who want maximum confidence in long-term SSD reliability, because this model has reported critical warnings and occasional disappearing drives.

In my head all I can hear is the Seinfeld episode.
"I made a reservation for a midsize and she's a small. I'm kidding around of course."
"Okay, lets see here. ... Well, I'm sorry, we have no midsize available at the moment."
"I don't understand. I made a reservation. Do you have my reservation?"
"Yes, we do. Unfortunately, we ran out of cars."
"But the reservation keeps the car here! That's why you HAVE the reservation."
"I KNOW why we have reservations."
"I don't think you DO! ... If you did, I'd have a car. ... See, you know how to TAKE the reservation, you just don't know how to HOLD, the reservation. And that's really, the most important PART of the reservation. The HOLDING. Anyone can just take them!"
"Let me, uh, speak with my supervisor."
I ordered one for store pickup just now, had to play around with zip codes to find one. Found one at a store about 15 miles away, and there was another store about 20 miles away that also had stock. Was ready for pickup in about a half hour. Just picked it up right now and installed it in my laptop.
So, these Walmart SSD deals are still alive, provided you have a store near you with stock. Have been shopping around, and haven't found anything this cheap. So figured it was worth the 30 mile round trip.
I guess I'll cancel my online order that seems to be hung up right now.

Did it show up as $139 for you in the app/browser when you purchased it for pickup?
Online shows $159 for me right now, and when I was in the store yesterday, the app said "$179 at this store" which matched the price tag on the display. They would have price-matched it for me at the $159 shipped/sold by Walmart.com price, but I saw this post that it was $139 and would likely be that price again, so I decided to wait. I just can't seem to get it to display for $139 at any store in my area (Fort Worth/Dallas).

But, yes, I just bought a new laptop that came with 1TB and has a second open slot. Been shopping around since before Black Friday. It seems these Walmart deals are the best anywhere. Prices on these things has been skyrocketing, so Walmart is the best deal around if you can find them.
Even got the HOLIDAY10 code to work. Have to play around with Delivery and Store Pickup, and get it to take a specific hour time of day.
Got a second one for $129 Store Pickup after the 10 dollar off code.
Honestly, it is a good price for any brand/type of nvme drive.

This is my first WD NVMe, as they were previously priced above the competition for my needs. I've used the following over the years, on a daily basis, all with no issues whatsoever...
Samsung 970 Evo Plus (6 years)
XPG S70 Blade (5 years)
Silicon Power XS70 (3 years)
Teamgroup T-Force (1 week)
...ironically, this WD is now far cheaper than all those other "cheap" drives I used in the past.

I have 2 of the 4TB models. One started giving critical warnings even though it was well under the usable life for the drive. The other drive just disappears sometimes. A series of reboots will bring it back eventually. The first issue could just be bad luck but there are lots of complaints about the second issue out there.
I don't think there is a broader issue with the brand. I have had good luck with WD_BLACK drives in general.
Play around with the zip code, and pick different stores, might pop in at the lower price. Then do store pickup or delivery that allows you to pick a specific hour of day, and use the HOLIDAY10 code.
