This is a strong price on the WD Black SN850X 2TB, a fast Gen4 NVMe drive with onboard DRAM and TLC flash that sits near the Samsung 990 Pro for everyday use. The drive has a solid reliability track record in long-term use, and the no heatsink version is easy to pair with a separate cooler if needed. The main catch is Walmart pricing and fulfillment, which can vary by store, zip code, and shipping versus pickup, with some orders getting canceled or stuck. A good value if you can find the right local listing.

Common Questions (5)

  • The HOLIDAY10 code can drop the price from $139 to $129 when the store or delivery setup allows it. Changing zip codes and switching between store pickup and delivery can reveal stores where the code applies.

  • No, the $139 price appears to be regional and store-dependent. Some areas only show higher prices like $159 or $179, while others can find $139 by manually switching stores or zip codes.

  • Yes, shipping orders can sit in "Placed" or "Preparing," and some orders have been canceled after Walmart first offered shipping. Store pickup has been faster for many buyers, especially when local stock is limited.

  • No, this listing does not include a heatsink. The product image shows a bare drive, and a PS5-compatible heatsink can be bought separately for around $10 if needed.

  • It is a 2TB Gen4 TLC NVMe drive with onboard DRAM/cache, and $139 is considered a strong current-market price. It is also described as roughly on par with the Samsung 990 Pro for typical consumer workloads.

Order got canceled, they offered to ship it and then said they can't. Walmart executives are clearly running a clown show. Found it at another local store. They should have offered me that instead of forcing me to cancel the order and then reorder at another store. Expecting another cancellation. About done with walmart, joke of a company.

Something I've learned recently with delivery from walmart, they apparently do not pick the item from the shelf until they're ready to deliver it, which could be hours from when I order it. So eg if it's a low stock situation, and someone else comes along and buys it off the shelf (or someone orders it for pickup, which they sometimes process sooner than they do for delivery), then by the time they go to the shelf for mine there could be 0 left in stock.

In my head all I can hear is the Seinfeld episode.

"I made a reservation for a midsize and she's a small. I'm kidding around of course."

"Okay, lets see here. ... Well, I'm sorry, we have no midsize available at the moment."

"I don't understand. I made a reservation. Do you have my reservation?"

"Yes, we do. Unfortunately, we ran out of cars."

"But the reservation keeps the car here! That's why you HAVE the reservation."

"I KNOW why we have reservations."

"I don't think you DO! ... If you did, I'd have a car. ... See, you know how to TAKE the reservation, you just don't know how to HOLD, the reservation. And that's really, the most important PART of the reservation. The HOLDING. Anyone can just take them!"

"Let me, uh, speak with my supervisor."

I ordered one for shipping, that has been hung up on "Placed" and "Preparing" back and forth the last few days.

I ordered one for store pickup just now, had to play around with zip codes to find one. Found one at a store about 15 miles away, and there was another store about 20 miles away that also had stock. Was ready for pickup in about a half hour. Just picked it up right now and installed it in my laptop.

So, these Walmart SSD deals are still alive, provided you have a store near you with stock. Have been shopping around, and haven't found anything this cheap. So figured it was worth the 30 mile round trip.

I guess I'll cancel my online order that seems to be hung up right now.

EDIT: Nevermind, I was able to find one nearby store with pickup available for $139 by manually switching through stores and bought it. This, unfortunately, seems to be the best price for these at this time.

Did it show up as $139 for you in the app/browser when you purchased it for pickup?

Online shows $159 for me right now, and when I was in the store yesterday, the app said "$179 at this store" which matched the price tag on the display. They would have price-matched it for me at the $159 shipped/sold by Walmart.com price, but I saw this post that it was $139 and would likely be that price again, so I decided to wait. I just can't seem to get it to display for $139 at any store in my area (Fort Worth/Dallas).

It showed $139 for me. When I look now, I actually see Shipping Available, with quantity of 6 available, and also store pickup at a few locations. It might be a regional thing (I'm in Florida). And the 6 I see might be because I'm a Walmart+ customer, and when I pick shipping it usually just is delivered from a local store. But my shipping order is still stuck, didn't want to risk it, so drove about a 30 mile round trip to get one at this price. WD BLACK is a good brand, and wanted to use this to store pictures and things that I want a quality drive for. I think either WD BLACK or Samsung would be the most reliable.

But, yes, I just bought a new laptop that came with 1TB and has a second open slot. Been shopping around since before Black Friday. It seems these Walmart deals are the best anywhere. Prices on these things has been skyrocketing, so Walmart is the best deal around if you can find them.

Deal still alive for some regions. Just bought one today on 12/11/25.

Even got the HOLIDAY10 code to work. Have to play around with Delivery and Store Pickup, and get it to take a specific hour time of day.

Got a second one for $129 Store Pickup after the 10 dollar off code.

I have had bad luck with these drives but $139 for a 2TB fast Gen4 TLC drive with a DRAM cache is a great price in the current market.

Honestly, it is a good price for any brand/type of nvme drive.

Bad luck with WD_Black specifically, or NVMe drives in general? What type of bad luck have you had and with what brand?

This is my first WD NVMe, as they were previously priced above the competition for my needs. I've used the following over the years, on a daily basis, all with no issues whatsoever...
Samsung 970 Evo Plus (6 years)
XPG S70 Blade (5 years)
Silicon Power XS70 (3 years)
Teamgroup T-Force (1 week)

...ironically, this WD is now far cheaper than all those other "cheap" drives I used in the past.

I have had bad luck with the SN850x specifically.

I have 2 of the 4TB models. One started giving critical warnings even though it was well under the usable life for the drive. The other drive just disappears sometimes. A series of reboots will bring it back eventually. The first issue could just be bad luck but there are lots of complaints about the second issue out there.

I don't think there is a broader issue with the brand. I have had good luck with WD_BLACK drives in general.

Now $159, still seems the lowest price anywhere.

Depends where you live. Still shows $139 for me. And can use HOLIDAY10 to bring it down to $129.

Play around with the zip code, and pick different stores, might pop in at the lower price. Then do store pickup or delivery that allows you to pick a specific hour of day, and use the HOLIDAY10 code.

It showed the same for me at the majority of the stores around me. I had to adjust the zip code to nearby zip and manually select each store and let the page refresh. After selecting about 8 stores, I finally found one that had it listed for $139 and they had it in stock for pickup. It also gave me the option to ship for $139 with this store selected along with another store that had it listed for $139 but not in stock for pickup.
