It's one of the best investments my wife has made that has turned me into a coffee snob. I practically use this every morning and it has paid for itself. The build quality is solid and the repair process is doable if you consult a youtube video.

What did you have to repair? Also, how loud is it? I get up for work way before my wife does and I have a feeling this would wake her up.

In the 4 years that we've had it, we've had to replace a felt gasket thats under the grinder and a rubber gasket that's where the espresso pours out. outside of that, the only routine maintanence would be flushing it out with a descaler every couple of months.
The only way your wife would hear this is if she sleeps in the same room.
fyi - don't use any starbucks beans as they are wet.
