Open the AI assistant and describe what you're shopping for, including budget, brand preferences, and any must‑have features.
Let the assistant narrow the list and explain the trade‑offs between options until you see one you like.
Select the item and proceed to checkout
Tell the assistant to "buy" or "check out" with the item you've chosen; it will pass you to a checkout flow with the correct merchant and price prefilled.
On the payment screen, choose PayPal as the payment method if it is available; this is what enables PayPal's buyer protection and any linked promotion.
Apply and confirm the 50%‑type offer (if eligible)
Log in to your PayPal account; if your account or card qualifies for a 50% or similar promo, you should see the offer label or discounted total before you finalize payment.
Check the terms (maximum discount, eligible categories, and end date), make sure the correct funding source and shipping details are selected, then confirm payment to complete the order.
^Try to ask it in this format.

If the response doesn't give you one of the supported retailers as an option, switch from the 'Answer' tab to the 'Shopping' tab located at the top. You will most likely find the instant buy button option there. (See my attached screenshot)
Community Reviews
Perplexity shopping can unlock the PayPal 50 percent back promo on select merchants, especially Newegg, with some success on PC parts, microSD Express cards, gaming chairs, and clothing. The strongest results come from the Shopping tab in a browser, often after repeated prompts or generic queries like find me a deal on, and the offer can appear at checkout with PayPal as the payment method. The main friction is reliability, since instant buy buttons, merchant matches, and cart initialization often fail or surface the wrong seller. Rewards also tend to post later in PayPal Rewards activity, sometimes after shipment or a couple of days, and the 50 percent is capped at $50 and may include tax.
Common Questions (6)
The offer can appear at checkout, but the points often do not show as pending right away. Pending rewards may appear later in PayPal Rewards activity, sometimes after shipment, charge processing, or within about 1-2 days; the terms also say redemption can take up to 14 days and may take longer.
Points have shown up anywhere from about 12 hours after shipment to roughly 1.5-2 days after purchase, and some orders only became pending when the merchant shipped or processed the charge. Once pending, the rewards can later confirm and cash out normally.
The promo has been triggered on Newegg PC components, graphics cards, gaming chairs, Mario Kart World, and some third-party Newegg sellers, plus Adorama microSD Express cards and Abercrombie clothing. It appears to be limited to specific product cards and merchant listings, so many searches never surface a qualifying Instant Buy option.
Use Perplexity on desktop or web, not the app, then switch from the Answer tab to the Shopping tab. Generic prompts like "find me a deal on..." or "help me buy..." work better than exact model searches, and sometimes starting a new session or pasting a direct product link helps surface the Instant Buy button.
Some Newegg third-party seller listings still show under Instant Buy and can trigger the offer, but other attempts only surface direct Newegg links or no PayPal option at all. The checkout flow can also fail with cart initialization errors or show only card payment, so eligibility is not consistent across listings.
Yes, the promo is capped at $50 in rewards, which is why a purchase can show 50% back but only up to that maximum. One checkout example also indicates the calculation includes tax, since the reward was based on the taxed total rather than the pre-tax price.

Perplexity will generate Newegg Instant Buy buttons, but only for everything BUT the product I want. It will give me third party sellers, 2-packs, random expensive listings, stores from russia, canada, etc.. I can see it get the right page in the sources but not want to generate a button for it, even if I give it the direct link. I've tried 30 different ways.
Not to mention.. I see even if I DO click on an instant buy button, there's no option to pay with paypal, only "card" shows up under payment options.
That being said the Edifier MR3 or MR4 is probably the best bang for buck, since its already discounted from $150 to $99.99. An additional $50 PayPal offer takes it down to 49.99. Cool. A decent computer speaker that is self powered with built in DAC with Bluetooth and balanced options. For $50? That's a damn steal.
I was looking to pay for a standalone speaker amplifier for $65-ish, but this does it all, and cheaper! Edifier is a good brand and great sound. I believe they made speakers for Creative at one point.

There we go. Finally got the pending points:
* Ordered on Nov 28: Corsair SF850 PSU
* Shipped later Nov 28
* Points posted Nov 30
Notes:
* Using a web browser to check for points.
* Does not show on the Home tab's reward points section
* But it does show they're pending on the Rewards tab, down towards the bottom.
I used Pay in 4.
Took SS of everything just in case.
Will report back.
