The Dreame L40 Ultra is a feature packed robot vacuum and mop that stands out for strong floor cleaning, smart navigation, and a full service dock with auto emptying and mop handling. The extendable side brush and mop removal for vacuum only runs are major draws, and the app adds flexible controls like custom suction levels and multi story mapping. The main caveats are weaker carpet performance than hard floors, occasional software oddities, and promo codes that can be finicky or conflict with free add ons. At around $360 to under $400, it lands as a compelling value for mostly hard floor homes.

Common Questions (5)

  • The X40/GoVac 508 is generally positioned as the higher-tier option, with Costco versions adding extras and a stronger return policy. The L40 Ultra is still considered a strong value at this price, but the X40 line is described as having more premium hardware and, in some comparisons, better cleaning features.

  • Yes, the promo code can still apply even when checkout first shows an error. The deal has been reported at $360 or $359.99 after the code, and some shoppers also saw the discount appear only after proceeding to purchase.

  • Yes, the L40 Ultra can fully remove its mop pads for vacuum-only runs and reload them later from the dock. That is a key difference versus the AE and some cheaper alternatives, which only lift the pads instead of leaving them at the base.

  • It works well on hard floors, but carpet performance is reported as weaker, especially on thicker carpet or rugs that need strong suction control. One setup with a thin rug still did not vacuum properly, while another user said it was fine for floors but not carpets.

  • Yes, it can reportedly be declouded and run locally with Valetudo, with Home Assistant and MQTT integration possible. The tradeoff is that installation is hardware- and software-heavy, requiring board work and soldering.

The code worked for me. Glad I did't rushed through and made a decision yesterday ! I was torn between Dreame L10 or L40 , Roborock Q35A, Mova but feel with the reduced price , I could take a leap of faith here with L40

Does anyone know if the L40 Ultra auto-adjusts vacuum pressure depending on the floor type? I have rugs all around the house over hardwood floor. These rugs have rubber backing (that means no air pass-through) so I have to reduce the suction power of my regular roll-on vacuum significantly in order to prevent the rugs from lifting/clinging to the vacuum cleaner. If the L40 Ultra tries to suck as hard as it can all the time, it probably won't work for my use. Anyone dealt with similar issues with a robot vac?

You can do a custom cleaning and choose between 4 suction settings (quiet, standard, turbo and Max)

Does the L40 Ultra require the app and/or WiFi to function, or can it be used as a dumb device as well?

Any thoughts on this and the Mova P10 Pro Ultra? Or the Roborock Qrevo QV 35A?

Of course you would need the app to set it up. Just like 99% of the robot vacuums being made today.

Is this better than the Roombas that are out there? I bought one last BF....worked great for 2 weeks, then various things stopped working on it, and by the 4 month mark it was completely useless.
FWIW, I've been a strong customer of iRobot for years. I've had at least 7 robots (vac bots, mop bots, and combo vac/mop), and this last one has insured that my next robot will NOT be iRobot. The robot has been a POS since the day I bought it, half the time it literally sits and slowly spins like it is confused, the mapping is a mess, it has a grinding since the day I bought it and iRobot's customer service has been thoroughly useless. They literally told me they do not support it if it was purchased through Amazon - something I KNOW is a flat out lie.
My next one will be a completely different brand from iRobot.

This or is it worth the extra $140 for the Dreame 508/X40 Ultra @ Costco with all the extras?

Trying to decide between the L40 and the Costco Roborock QX Revo Ultra. I'm new to robot vacuums. My place is mostly hardwood with one carpeted bedroom, and I don't have any pets. Which would be better?

Thanks for sharing. The official dreame website is also currently offering the same 10% discount, and I was able to purchase via paypal's pay later in 4 to qualify for the 20% chargeback promotion (that's currently live). Which brings the price of the unit down even further.

$150 gets black vs white, 6400mAh vs 5200mAh, 12k vs 11k suction, Tricut vs rubber brush, 158 vs 149 hot cleanup, extras (Rubber Brush x 1, Side Brush x 2, Filter x 2, Dust Bag x 8, Mop pads x 5 pairs (10 pcs)), Costco vs Amazon return policy.

I just returned mine and reordered LOL
That what they tell me to do all the time. They say they don't do price adjustment but would rather I return it and rebuy.

How does this compare to the roborock q10 s5+? Obviously more features with the dream, but quality is equal?
The q10 s5+ is crap. It can be sitting right in front of the dock but still can't find it.
