The Dreame L40 Ultra is a feature packed robot vacuum and mop that stands out for strong floor cleaning, smart navigation, and a full service dock with auto emptying and mop handling. The extendable side brush and mop removal for vacuum only runs are major draws, and the app adds flexible controls like custom suction levels and multi story mapping. The main caveats are weaker carpet performance than hard floors, occasional software oddities, and promo codes that can be finicky or conflict with free add ons. At around $360 to under $400, it lands as a compelling value for mostly hard floor homes.

Common Questions (5)

  • The X40/GoVac 508 is generally positioned as the higher-tier option, with Costco versions adding extras and a stronger return policy. The L40 Ultra is still considered a strong value at this price, but the X40 line is described as having more premium hardware and, in some comparisons, better cleaning features.

  • Yes, the promo code can still apply even when checkout first shows an error. The deal has been reported at $360 or $359.99 after the code, and some shoppers also saw the discount appear only after proceeding to purchase.

  • Yes, the L40 Ultra can fully remove its mop pads for vacuum-only runs and reload them later from the dock. That is a key difference versus the AE and some cheaper alternatives, which only lift the pads instead of leaving them at the base.

  • It works well on hard floors, but carpet performance is reported as weaker, especially on thicker carpet or rugs that need strong suction control. One setup with a thin rug still did not vacuum properly, while another user said it was fine for floors but not carpets.

  • Yes, it can reportedly be declouded and run locally with Valetudo, with Home Assistant and MQTT integration possible. The tradeoff is that installation is hardware- and software-heavy, requiring board work and soldering.

Any thoughts on this and the Mova P10 Pro Ultra?
The Dreame L40 Ultra and the Mova P10 Pro Ultra are nearly identical, and their parts are fully interchangeable. (They might actually be truly identical, with one or two features purposely disabled on one version or the other for differentiation purposes.) The Dreame can eject its mops in the base station so they don't wet the carpets and then automatically reload them when needed, which may seem cool but it's functionally equivalent to doing a "Vacuum then Mop" task on the Mova, where it doesn't wet the mops until the robot returns to the dock between vacuuming and mopping. The Mova supposedly has a nominally stronger vacuum and slightly better navigation, according to Vacuum Wars tests, but I can't imagine it's truly significant.

Both are feature-packed vacuums, so go with whichever is cheaper at the moment. Right now, that's the Dreame using this promotion. This is an amazing price if you can get it. Just a month ago, both versions cost hundreds more than today.

Both companies (actually, both divisions - they're probably the same company, but they deny it if you ask) are known for their totally sucky customer service (and they might be the same people in the same office anyway). If you get lucky and don't get a unit with problems, you'll be happy with either one because they're great machines. If you do need help from Mova or Dreame support, prepare for frustration, unknowledgeable agents, conflicting responses, and long delays before eventually getting what you need. Both have had quality issues (mostly stuck laser sensors and cracked wheels) and are running around 10% 1-star ratings on Amazon at the moment, although Mova has been doing slightly better in the ratings recently (possibly due to their totally illegal $89 coupon offer to anyone who posts a 5-star review and sends a screenshot).

The q10 s5+ is crap. It can be sitting right in front of the dock but still can't find it.
My parents have the Roborock Q10 S5+ and I have one of these. The Q10 S5+ is definitely not crap, it's a good entry-level machine, but it's in a different league from the Dreame L40 Ultra. The Q10 S5+ has one large mop that vibrates (invisibly) against the floor, while the Dreame (and the Mova P10 Pro Ultra) has two rotating mop pads, so the Dreame/Mova should be significantly better at mopping. Still, the Roborock does a surprisingly good job at mopping somehow. The Dreame/Mova has the extendable mop pad and side brush, which is a significant plus if your rooms aren't circular. And of course, the Roborock Q10 doesn't have the full-service base station, it only empties the dust.

Other than than, I'd say the vacuuming performance is pretty much equivalent. And I think the navigation and mapping are actually better on the Roborock, but it's hard to say for sure because my house and my parents' house are different. The Roborock feels more solid somehow, but that might just be because my first Dreame/Mova was defective and had to go back so I'm suspicious of their quality. But that's an N of one.

My parents haven't needed to deal with Roborock support yet, so I can't say what they're like but word on the street is that they're better than Dreame/Mova. There's no way they can be worse, based on my experience with the latter, but they may possibly be just as horrendously bad.

My previously bought Roborock Q Revo didnt last even 2 years. Roborock's Customer service is absolutely terrible as well.
Any feedback on the customer service of Dreame?
How does the L40 model compare against the Roborock S5A edge being solid got $550 now? Thank you

Kohls has the Govac500 which is essentially the AE for $530 with $177 in kohls cash effectively bringing to $350.. might be worth checking that out.

I for one decided to go with this L40 Ultra because the AE doesnt have the extendible side brush which was a deal breaker for me.
This model vs the Govac400 on Kohls-which is at $399 but $120 Kohls Cash ?

I bought this last time it was on sale. For the price, it has great specs. If you're coming from roborock, you will probably be disappointed with the software. This thing has a lot of oddities that are very annoying at times.
Examples - after 3 weeks, mine no longer cleans along the edge of the wall, under baseboards, etc. No idea why. It almost never extends out the mop or side brush anymore. It used to do it constantly. No settings changed. I have experimented with all of the settings but it basically refuses to use that feature now. Nothing is physically preventing either brush from being extended.
Very inconsistent in why it decides to do things. Sometimes it will start cleaning/mopping right out of the gate. Sometimes it removes the mop pad and then vacuums first, then returns for the mop. Sometimes it will remove the mop pad, then yell at me in the app that the mop pads were removed and that I need to reattach them. This is all after I try and get it to clean the same room in the house, so there is no reason for these differences.
Its navigation can be downright stupid. My cat once walked in front of it for two seconds. Dreame immediately gave up, declared it could not get to the area that it needed to clean, and then aimlessly wondered around for several minutes trying to find the base that was initially 3 feet away from it.

Is this better than the Roombas that are out there? I bought one last BF....worked great for 2 weeks, then various things stopped working on it, and by the 4 month mark it was completely useless.
The company that makes Roombas is about to go bankrupt so avoid Roombas at all cost. Features may stop working once the company goes under.

Does this coupon work with the free cleaning fluid promotion? Or is that replacing the coupon? Just curious because I ordered it last night and not sure I missed that promo or it's replacing the coupon.

Dreame reportedly shares customer service teams with Mova, its sister (or subsidiary?) company. I've never called Dreame support, but my interactions with Mova support have been universally frustrating, maddening, infuriating, and whatever other bad words I can say in polite company. If it's really the same team, then expect the worst.

$150 gets black vs white, 6400mAh vs 5200mAh, 12k vs 11k suction, Tricut vs rubber brush, 158 vs 149 hot cleanup, extras (Rubber Brush x 1, Side Brush x 2, Filter x 2, Dust Bag x 8, Mop pads x 5 pairs (10 pcs)), Costco vs Amazon return policy.
Not sure what you are trying to say but Rtings have a review/ratings of the Roborock Qrevo (not the Costco model) and L40; though the L40 is feature rich, the Roborock cleans better. Here is a comparison of the two -
