The Dreame L40 Ultra is a feature packed robot vacuum and mop that stands out for strong floor cleaning, smart navigation, and a full service dock with auto emptying and mop handling. The extendable side brush and mop removal for vacuum only runs are major draws, and the app adds flexible controls like custom suction levels and multi story mapping. The main caveats are weaker carpet performance than hard floors, occasional software oddities, and promo codes that can be finicky or conflict with free add ons. At around $360 to under $400, it lands as a compelling value for mostly hard floor homes.

  • The robot can remove mop pads for vacuum-only runs, which helps keep carpets drier on multi-floor setups.

  • The promo code can bring the L40 Ultra down to about $360 after applying discounts.

  • The dock supports hot water washing and hot air drying along with auto dustbin emptying for hands-off maintenance.

  • The app offers custom cleaning with multiple suction settings, including quiet, standard, turbo, and Max.

  • The AE model lacks an extendible side brush, which can be a deal breaker for edge cleaning needs.

  • Coupon and promo behavior can be inconsistent, including cases where codes show errors or fail to apply initially.

  • Cleaning behavior can become inconsistent over time, including reduced edge cleaning and mop or side brush extension.

  • Support and app-dependent features can become limited if the manufacturer or app support ends, turning the robot into a "paperweight."

This model vs the Govac400 on Kohls-which is at $399 but $120 Kohls Cash ?
Govac 400 is the L40CE model which is a lower compared to this L40 ultra, its missing a bunch of features liek hot water wash, extendible side brush etc.

One more thing to consider when buying one of these or any robot vacuum: Since very few of the brands use open-source standards (and Mova does not), if the company that makes your expensive robot goes out of business, your robot becomes a very expensive paperweight. It will lose all app-related features like mapping, selective room or area cleaning, mode changing, and possibly even linking to a new WiFi router. All it will do is try to vacuum and mop the whole house from scratch when your push its start button.

This isn't theoretical, it's exactly what happened when vacuum manufacturer Neato went out of business in 2023. Their parent promised to support the app for 5 years, but they stopped after only 2 years, in 2025. Neato owners can't do anything other than a manual whole-house task, and there's no recourse. And they were owned by a respected German industrial company. Now Roomba/iRobot is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, too.
With so many Chinese brands on the market competing ferociously for market share right now with these ridiculously low prices, many won't survive even a year from now. Not only will the 3-year warranties be meaningless, but the robots themselves will be mostly useless too. So don't spend a fortune on one of these until it's clear who the surviving companies will be.
Consider your $360 for the Dreame to be a sunk cost and enjoy it while it lasts.

Dreame L40 Ultra and MOVA P10 Pro Ultra support Valetudo, so there are open source options for it, albeit difficult to install it if you are not hardware and software savvy. Can get the MOVA for $240 with the GOVX coupon and 20% Cashback PayPal offer.

Not sure what you are trying to say but Rtings have a review/ratings of the Roborock Qrevo (not the Costco model) and L40; though the L40 is feature rich, the Roborock cleans better. Here is a comparison of the two -

I was comparing Costco and this deal.

How does this pan out with the X40. I bought one from Costco at $499 mainly because of the store return policy.
I did the same. Costco return policy is worth $200-$300 in value.

It's a shame that the L40s Ultra AE isn't supported as that one looks good too. Maybe the X40 is way to go since supported ?

The tragic thing is that the mops seem to be getting better on newer models. Unfortunately this uses the old pad map style "mop" which doesn't have as much downforce. If all of your cleanups are liquid and not caked on, then this would work fine. But welcome to the real world where the majority of mopping is needed in a kitchen where stuff is caked on tile.

Costco basically took the X40 hardware and paired it with a slightly upgraded dock and a nicer accessory pack so they could justify carrying it as a separate SKU. That AceClean line in the listing isn't a typo. Costco models often get quiet mid-cycle upgrades because Dreame can swap parts as long as the "508" name stays the same. It's still an X40 brain, but the washboard is closer to the newer style and that fixes most of the early X40 complaints.

So teh goVac is BETTER then this model...by one small level.

It seem that Dreame has increased the price of their refurbished x40 ultra's so they can clear out these L40.

I think the big difference is higher temperature when cleaning, and one additional sensor to avoid obstacles.

First of all... why is this tragic? The fact that newer models are getting better and better... to me is AMAZING.

the Dreame X50 Ultra has higher mop pressure and a more advanced system for mopping and self-cleaning compared to the X40 Ultra.
The Dreame X50 Ultra features an upgraded mop system designed to clean more effectively and efficiently

But... I would never spend the money that they want on the X50... cheapest price in the past I have seen "multiple times" for a refurbished X40 is $420 after a 20% off ebay deal. I was hoping it would go to $350 for this week... I am wrong, the price JUMPED a few hundred and they are liquidating this model which is almost as good as the X40.
