Community Reviews
This M12 combo kit stands out mainly because it pairs the drill and impact driver with two 6Ah batteries, which gives it more run time and makes the battery pack the real value here. The larger XC packs are especially appealing for brushless or Fuel tools, and the price is viewed as strong for that battery capacity. The main knock is that the tools are not Fuel and not brushless, so the kit feels mismatched and less compelling than buying a Fuel drill or a different bundle. It is a better fit if the batteries matter more than the tool tier.
DIYers who specifically want the M12 6Ah batteries because the community says the $149 value is mainly driven by those 6Ah packs, which are generally very expensive.
People trying to build out the M12 line and don't mind that the kit is subcompact, because one commenter said they'd buy into M12 by getting a Fuel hammer drill kit and then adding a 6.0Ah battery separately-framing the battery deal as the key part of the value.
Owners who already have M12 5Ah high-output batteries and are looking for a second battery set for extra runtime, because one commenter said they like the two batteries but don't really NEED them since they already have 5Ah high outputs.
Buyers who are okay with non-Fuel tools as long as they're getting larger-capacity packs, because one commenter argued the deal is strong if it's truly 2x 6Ah batteries and noted Fuel tools use less energy, making larger batteries a "double good deal."
Buyers who want Fuel performance or brushless power, because multiple commenters said "Don't buy it" since it's not Fuel and it's "No brushless."
People expecting the included oscillating/multitool add-ons to be worthwhile, because one commenter called the OMT "worthless" and said the rest of the Black Friday sale was a joke.
Users who care about battery performance under load, because one commenter said the batteries "last 5 minutes before they bog down."
Buyers who are trying to maximize value for Fuel/brushless tools that benefit from higher current output, because one commenter said smaller packs in this size/form factor are a weak deal and that lower current relative to other sizes may not suit Fuel brushless tools.
Shoppers who want a balanced kit for compact tools, because one commenter said it's an odd combo to pair tiny subcompact tools with 6Ah batteries (like "22" donk rims on a Mini Cooper").

But only certain tools and workloads can take advantage of the "higher output".
See YouTube for comparisons of the XC 5.0 HO vs the XC 6.0 and other non HO M12 batteries. Torque Test Channel discusses this in multiple videos including a review of the newer top model M12 impact wrenches... The M12 5.0 HO is the clear winner and a must have to get full ratings / specs out of some (high torque) tools.
The M18 tools run into similar limitations with battery packs based on older cell tech. The newer M18 impacts require the M18 Forge batteries to get the most out of the tool. The forge batteries use a cells with "tabless" design. It's not clear to me if the HO M12's use the newer tabless cells or just a different battery chemistry.
Like putting 22" donk rims on a Mini Cooper.
My local store had them in a display like this.

Agreed.
I purchased the $169 kit that comes the ratchet but smaller CP batteries. Delivery isn't until next week, but plan to keep it over this deal due to the smaller/lighter batteries. I'm looking for the lower weight with these smaller tools and smaller batteries as a supplement to slightly larger / more powerful M12 fuel tools and batteries I already own.
But I could see where some might prefer the XC 6.0 kit for the the larger capacity / run time per charge and the ability to stand the tool up on it's grip due to the size of the XC battery base.
