Technics AZ100 earbuds stand out for big, detailed sound in a compact fit, with strong bass, wide soundstage, and very good call quality. The smaller shape sits more comfortably than the AZ80 for some ears, and the app EQ can push the tuning even further. Noise cancelling is solid but not over ear level, and the touch controls require tapping the buds directly. There is also concern about occasional hissing or popping and about latency for gaming, making them a strong everyday listening pick if those tradeoffs do not matter.
Critical listeners wanting flagship-level earbuds, because the sound is repeatedly described as superb with noticeably better bass and soundstage than Sony models.
The AZ100 is described as a noticeable step up in sound quality over the AZ80, with a smaller in-ear fit and stronger bass and soundstage than Sony WF-XM4/XM5. It is also positioned as an upper-echelon earbud that can rival or slightly edge out AirPods Pro for some listeners.
The AZ100 is reported to fit smaller and feel lighter in the ear than the AZ80, and one buyer preferred it over the Momentum 4 because of better fit and comfort. The AZ80 is also described as very comfortable by another owner, so the line is generally strong on fit.
Call quality is reported as excellent, even with loud background noise like an ambulance passing by. ANC is strong for earbuds but not as effective as an over-ear headset, even after trying different ear tips.
The AZ100 was reportedly $199 from the same Technics USA store about two weeks earlier, and code Technics25 can take another 10% off on the website. That makes the current price more attractive if the code still applies.
Latency is reported at about 0.5 seconds on the AZ80, which makes them poor for gaming unless you manually adjust video delay. Codec can affect the delay, but the reported lag is enough to be a practical drawback for gaming.
I still have my PayPal 20% CB offer and was thinking about using it for this, earlier this morning, from Best Buy's website (have reward certs too). But looking at Reddit, it seems a lot of folks had issues with hissing and popping merely days or weeks after purchasing them. I'm unsure if the issue is fixed in more recent production models but it does concern me for something that MSRPs above $200
I was looking to move up from my Buds FEs but I decided to wait. These get all the accolades in the world for TWS performance but QC is a big deal for me, at $200+.
How is the latency for these? Deciding between these and the bose qc truly wireless gen 2. I read something about bose having their lower latency codec while these don't have something similar?
these are great. solve basically every issue that i had with airpods and bose except that i don't love how the controls require tapping the buds directly (no one has matched apple's much better stem controls). people are constantly surprised at how great the call quality is. an ambulance could be passing by and the person on the line won't hear it at all. definitely worth $300, no question at $225.

I've had the AZ80s for 6 months, got the AZ100s on this deal. I'm no audiophile but listen to wide range of music and the az100 are noticeably better in sound quality. but the single biggest difference for me is that the az100 are smaller and therefore fit/feel in my ears. The az80 are not large but their form is such that they stick out a little, and heavier.
I have the az80s and i love their comfortability/ANC way better than many others.
I've went through the Bose in-ear QC earbuds 2, Jabra elites 7, 8/sport editions, AirPods Pro (meh)
i've had sony wf xm4 for 3 years, the wf xm5 for 2 years. (using with S22 Ultra)
Was skeptical to buy these but just got the az100 with this deal... i cant believe the bass. if my xm5's were a 5/10, this is easily a 8.5 to 9. the app with EQ adjustment puts this beyond anything i've heard before (from TWS)
the soundstage and bass is unbelievable compared to the sonys. kudos to panasonic. will be following the technics line from now on.
