I have two of these and despite some performance issues, it's still the best Kodi box I have. Due to those performance issues though, I use an Apple TV as my primary box for streaming apps. Though I may just have to reapply some thermal paste to get this thing working good as new

The 16gb storage is soldered? Who do they think they are? Apple?
You can simply attach a USB stick or SSD

Love my Shield Pro but wish they would release a new one with updated hardware. Unfortunately it seems like Nvidia is all in on AI and doesn't care nearly as much about their consumer products anymore

One thing to note is that Nvidia has dropped the ball on updates. I got 1 update the past 2 years. If security is a concern for you, I would look elseware.

I don't get it why people think this is good deal for a 6 year old media payer where as latest Apple TV is much cheaper and much more powerful. I know the os is different but still not a good deal for such high price for ancient hardwares

Paid the same for mine (bought a pair) 9 years ago. This is an inflation-free deal. Just got an update. They're still supporting them and mine work like new except for having to replace both remotes for being worn out from overuse. This is the iPhone pro of Android TV boxes and I would gladly pay this price again if one of my boxes died today. These are a rare instance of paying for a premium product, and then finding out that the premium support lasts for at least half a decade longer than you expected it to. Oh... Same company replaced my my game controllers when they failed out of warranty too. Just for the asking. I simply sent them an email. They emailed back a shipping label. I regret not buying Nvidia stock.

The list of reasons to get this over the Apple TV are very short. I say this as a happy owner of the Shield. It's great but the Apple TV is better and cheaper. Unless you have a very specific reason to want the shield such as sideloading some specific apps, go with the Apple TV.

Really wish they'd release an updated model. This thing is 6 years old by now.

I have owned both, and I would say AppleTV only if you are already heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, otherwise this is a better media player.

I just bought an apple tv to replace my older shield box because the remote always had issues. Apple tv seems a bit buggy (TV flickers randomly). I think its due to dolby vision but otherwise its a solid alternative.

AppleTV annoys me with converting all sound output to PCM... I prefer the Shield that will just pass the native codec to a receiver. And I've owned more AppleTVs than Shields, but it's the thing that still bugs me the most.

If you don't have home theater equipment, then it doesn't matter, but if you'd rather have your much more expensive receiver decode the audio channels, then AppleTV isn't what you want.

I have 1st gen Apple TV and just bought a 4k TV that the device doesn't support. Pull the trigger on this or might as well wait for the new Shield model? I'm asking because I've been waiting to upgrade all this time haha
