They're pricier, but other brands require maintenance and mods that these usually don't. They print great out the box. $399 for a Bambu P1S is a great starter printer.
Id say if you like to tinker this is a good second printer. Then you can use your reliable workhorse to print replacement parts and mods for your project creality, heh.

The K1 SE is a fast Core XY printer that can feel close to plug and play for PLA, with auto leveling, input shaping, and strong out of the box speed for the price. The enclosure version is better suited to ABS because it helps keep warm air around the print and reduce warping, though it does not handle fumes, so ventilation still matters. The refurb angle is the main risk, since some units arrive dusty or need small fixes, while others print flawlessly after a quick setup. A solid low cost pick if you are comfortable checking a refurb.
Common Questions (5)
At about $111, it is considered worth it even if you end up replacing a few parts or doing some cleanup. Several units have printed well after minor setup or maintenance, but the refurb condition can vary a lot.
It can be a strong first printer if you want a fast, mostly plug-and-play machine with auto leveling and input shaping. It is still a refurb Creality unit, so buyers who want a true set-and-forget experience may prefer Bambu, Prusa, or Flashforge instead.
PLA usually does not need an enclosure, and the K1 SE is described as a great value for PLA and figurines. ABS benefits from an enclosure because it keeps the air warmer and reduces warping, but the enclosure does not stop fumes, so ventilation or exhaust is still needed.
Inspect squareness, belts, pulleys, hotend, bed, and frame pieces, and make sure nothing is bent or loose. Refurb units have arrived dusty, scratched, with disconnected Bowden tubes, loose nozzle hardware, or even missing parts, so it is worth checking everything before printing.
Yes, it is a CoreXY printer, not a bed slinger. That design is part of why it is described as fast and suitable for high-speed printing.

flashforge with CB during sale is marginally more expensive and personally I prefer printing on it
inspect for squareness and be able to tram the bed
inspect and replace broken/bent components
inspect/tune belts/pulleys/etc
Personally, with cheap refurbished printers, I'll take things apart and put them back together while checking all screws/parts. For these 'coreXY' style printers, at the very least belts, hotend, bed.
If ANY of the frame pieces are bent, return it.
Minus $25 for using PayPal at Ali, and %14 cash back from a site. Might actually make it the close to the same price.

creality has become a parts reseller business, their printers break all the time or there is a design flaw.
flashforge ad5m is made much better imo
extruder setup looks like garbage compared to my flashforge ad5m i bought for 155+ 16 bucks to encloser kit. build plate is smaller and no where near the quality of the ad5m that is magnetic removable.

I now have a K1 max. I can't say in my limited experience with the K1 it's better or worse than the 5M. I think the 5M is better with VFAs but otherwise I find the two very similar. I like the design of the FF Pro's enclosure better since it seems a bit more air tight with a more advanced filter system. I also think the FF material swaps work better. No messing with locking/releasing the extruder. If FF had a 300mm sized print bed I would have been very comfortable staying with their printers. But I haven't seen the issue with the K1 max. A friend with a K2 Plus did have issues with a few materials jamming but ultimately addressed it by switching to Bambu's material (I think it was either an ASA or PETG).
