lol. They are probably the most ethical retailer around.

Want a loophole? Get a friend to buy you some Costco gift cards, smallest available denomination (which used to be $25 per card). Your gift card is now your entry pass. When you want to buy something, show the checkout person and ask them to ring you up as a non-member (used to be member 99). Pay using your card and they'll let you use a different card to pay the remainder.

It is a members only club... how else are they supposed to verify your membership?

Some nice stuff here, too bad I already purchased some of these items already to take advantage of the 40 off now.

100% agree. Plus long checkout lines, full pat down when you leave the store, and no curbside pick-up.

Sam's Club "Scan and Go" for the win.
Sams is no better in any way either except they carry few more SKUs than Costco. Rest is nightmare there as well.

That's because it's combining all discounts. You likely need to hit $250 threshold AFTER discounted price.

Like say for instance if you buy 4 bags of the $68.99 protein powder, it would be ~$276 before discount, but after discount it's ~$220. In which case it won't deduct the $40 until you add another >$30 worth of eligible items.

at checkout.... simply ask for card and valid ID. Members should not have an issue with that. But asking a card at the entrance is an overkill...... I used to love Costco but many things are going in opposite direction lately and started hating it.
I don't know how it is where you live but here in Long Island City the Costco food court is separate from the store and doesn't require card to enter. It is constantly swamped by lowlives who are abusing the cheap meals and hanging out there for hours. Regular Costco customers have to wait in long lines to pick up order and the have nowhere to sit and eat it because local "youth gangs" are taking up all the tables.
I cannot imagine these people would be allowed inside the store without membership where they would open packages and eat what they want and then steal some stuff and just bolt off.
I am very glad they require card scan at the entrance.

Yup, same here. Freeloaders would make the free samples an even bigger pain too. It takes half a second to get your card out, some people are huge babies when asked to do literally anything.

Huh, what does it mean by "Select items"---which items are excluded from this offer?
well, if you click on the label spend $250 save $40, it will filler out all items for it, and sort by price low to high if you like.

at checkout, wouldn't make sense because if they aren't members and don't want to sign up, there's gonna be a lot of putting items back for the employees. It also prevents the checkout from slowing down with verification.
