This bundle pairs a 4TB Lexar PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD with a 15.6 inch MSI portable monitor, and the standout appeal is the storage capacity for PS5 expansion. The drive is described as TLC in some reviews, while the Costco model is also called out as QLC in others, so the exact NAND type is a key point to verify. For PS5 use, the drive is still framed as a read heavy fit, and the heatsink can be removed if needed. The monitor adds extra value, especially with its full size HDMI port, making the package feel more compelling than the SSD alone.
The Lexar 4TB PS5 NVMe model reportedly uses TLC, which can ease concerns about rewrite ability and longevity.
The SSD heatsink can reportedly be removed, which makes installation more flexible for different setups.
The deal can work well for PS5 storage needs because PS5 space can run low even after adding a 1TB SSD.
The PS5 only supports PCIe 4.0x4 M.2, so a PCIe 5.0 drive would provide no benefit for that console slot.
The Costco version is reportedly a QLC variant, which can reduce wear lifespan and overall value at this price.
The SSD is reportedly DRAM-less and relies on HMB, but PS5 support for HMB is questioned and USB use reportedly lacks HMB.
QLC tradeoffs can include slow writes after SLC cache exhaustion, which may matter for workloads with heavier writes.
The deal may be less attractive if the portable monitor is not needed, since the SSD alone is the main decision point.

There are mixed reviews about whether the chips are TLC or QLC for Costco & non-Costco version:

Still good deal though since we won't notice much difference for PS5 use case.
I guess I need to think about how that matters for this use case. The issues with a QLC drive in the PS5:
* Lowered wear lifespan - Probably not a huge deal on the PS5 which should be highly read intensive
- Writes are horribly slow when the SLC cache is exhausted or not available - This is still an issue on the PS5 although, again, writes will be less common than reads
- It is DRAM-less which means it relies on HMB. Except the PS5 doesn't support HMB...
I guess I need to decide if I can live with those tradeoffs or if should cancel/return it.In general, it feels it isn't as good a value for a QLC drive unless you really want the accompanying monitor.
