This HP Omen 16L and the $550 version (512gb SSD) version from HP.com are both great deals. I almost pulled the trigger on either of these as I was also looking at the $700 PowerSpec from Microcenter with the exact same specs. The only drawback / deciding factor would be from YouTube reviewers brought up that the HP Omen 16L has some amount of custom plugs/wiring that prevents certain parts from being completely changeable if you decide to keep this system for a lengthy amount of time and need to swap parts. The motherboard is a custom HP board and has plugs that are custom to the CPU fan. Unsure how easy it is to replace the PSU. That's what you give up pretty much. The $700 Microcenter PowerSpec has fully listed specs with well known brands you recognize, full glass side panel and better RGBs, and you know you will have full ability to swap any part in there but it's $100 more than the HP Omen 16L equivalent...
The $550 Omen direct from HP only has 512GB SSD and the cheaper black case with no side view window. All other specs the same.
I'd normally recommend 1TB for future-proofing and perhaps performance (which may decrease as the drive fills). But paying an extra $50 (which also happens to be almost 10% of the price) doesn't seem like a great value.

I see a LOT of the OMEN 16L model on refurbished deals and sites.

Good point.
I agree with others the upgrade from 512GB to 1TB is not worth it but honestly the white ("panda metal") case with the window is pretty cool so as a matter of taste I'd pay more for it in combination with the storage upgrade.

Valid point about the window on the side panel. I didn't realize that was one of the differences.

I buy a lot of the HP computers for office use because they are cheap. They make changing the configuration very difficult. If you want a better upgrade path, spend a little bit more and get something else.
Sometimes I think of adding a second external power supply to support a more powerful video card. Sometimes, there are hidden limitations in the HP motherboard so that you can't even get the full specification from the CPU and the bandwidth of the data slots.
This should be $300. That is a converted mobile processor. That card will get you 1080p medium at 60 fps. I mean if you want a pc then okay? Probably better getting a switch 2 at this point or just a playstation.
The way things are going the RAM alone is gonna cost $300 soon. At 1080 this thing should run Cyberpunk on high and maintain 60 FPS, while also being a functioning PC that can be used outside of gaming. A PS5 or Switch only makes sense if the exclusives are day-one must-plays for you, or the Switch's portability is a huge draw for you. But you're gonna be overpaying in the long run on more expensive games and paywalled online functionality.
