DiscountMags is a reliable way to grab discounted magazine subscriptions, especially for titles like Consumer Reports, The Economist, Wired, and PC Gamer. The subscriptions work, and the pricing can beat direct renewal by a wide margin, with Consumer Reports and The Economist called out as especially strong values. The main catch is auto renewal, which can kick in at full price unless the cancellation email or Discount Lock is handled in time. Some print titles also have fewer than 12 issues a year, and Consumer Reports print does not include online reviews. A solid option if you want cheap magazine access and stay on top of renewal settings.

  • DiscountMags subscriptions can work smoothly when cancellation happens before the auto-renewal for the regular price.

  • DiscountMags can fulfill the magazines it sells without delivery problems when the subscription is managed correctly.

  • The Economist pricing can be improved by buying a multi-year term during a lower sale period.

  • DiscountMags can offer Consumer Reports pricing that is lower than subscribing direct for the same magazine.

  • DiscountMags auto-renews at the full rate well in advance, which can require careful monitoring of the cancellation email.

  • Consumer Reports print delivery frequency can drop to every other month, and the content may feel ad-heavy.

  • Consumer Reports issue counts can drop from 12 per year to 6 while pricing stays roughly similar.

  • DiscountMags removed its price-locked Discount Lock feature, which can reduce the number of subscriptions people keep active.

You can cancel their "Discount Lock" feature to prevent auto-renewals. (You have to do it for each title.)

Also, if you order a one-year magazine subscription, you may be shown a screen offering a second year with a further 10% discount.

Keep in mind that very few print magazines send 12 issues a year anymore -- most annual subscriptions are for 10, 6, or even 4 issues. (And be aware that a print subscription to Consumer Reports doesn't give you access to their online reviews.) But I've been using DiscountMags for years, and never had any problems.

economist?
Economist was $89 last year for both print and digital. This year it is $199 for both. Good thing I bought 2 years last year at $89 per year.

I've used Discount Mags for years. No problems at all. Consumer Reports magazine is $39 per year if you subscribe direct, or $27.90 FOR 2 YEARS thru DM. Can't beat it!
Careful, CR this year went from 12 issues per year to 6 issues -- while the price has basically stayed the same !

Actually if you go directly to the Economist website, the digital-only sub is on sale for $125/year. Still sucks compared to what I paid last year, which was $75 for the year via Discount Mags.

Don't know why the price has shot up so much this year. 🤬🤬🤬

Does anyone trust discount mags?
Absolutely, have used them for years and years, never any problems and they used to have good sales pricing on The Economist which is one of the very few decent news sources left.

I'd say economics of scale is at fault.

Haven't used them in a couple years but the subscriptions worked. I'll say they will auto-renew your subs way in advance at the full rate so keep an eye out for the single email they'll send letting you cancel the full-price renewal.
auto renew is a deal breaker for me.
