This renewed 16 inch MacBook Pro stands out as a strong value for heavy workloads, especially video editing, AI work, and graphics, with the M1 Max, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage still covering most needs. The larger screen and better audio make it more appealing than the 14 inch for desk use, and the Amazon sold and shipped listing adds some confidence. The main tradeoff is age and size, since it is heavy and already several years old. Renewed condition can also vary, with reports of worn batteries and mismatched accessories. A solid fit if portability is not the priority.
Video editors and AI-heavy creators who need strong GPU performance, because the M1 Max handles heavy graphics and editing well.
At this price, it is a strong value for a 1TB M1 Max MacBook Pro sold and shipped by Amazon, especially compared with buying new. It is still an older 2021 machine, so it makes the most sense if you want the extra RAM, storage, and GPU rather than the newest generation.
Yes. The M1 Max configuration has enough power for picture and video editing and other demanding tasks, with the stronger GPU helping most for AI work, heavy graphics, and video editing. For lighter use, it is overkill.
The 16-inch model is heavier, but it offers a larger screen and better audio. If portability matters, the 14-inch is the easier carry; if you want the bigger display and speakers, the 16-inch is the better fit.
It should come with accessories equivalent to the original box contents, but one reported unit arrived with a generic box, a non-MagSafe USB-C cable, and an off-brand 96W adapter instead of the expected 140W brick. That makes the accessory condition worth checking carefully on arrival.
$1K for a used 5-year old computer is not a good deal.
No? It'll do most of what anyone wants, and is 1/3 the price of a new one. I might agree with you if we're talking about a 5 year old shitbox Dell, but a MacBook Pro M1 Max nicely equipped for $1K is a good deal. A 2020 model year used car for 1/3 the original price is also a good deal, yes?

Just to provide a data point. Intel 258v performs similar to m1 max/pro CPU wise, also easily come with 1tb. and there are deals floating around $600.
On Mac side, there were m4 MacBook air at maybe $700 from amazon a week ago, though only with 24gb ram and 512gb storage.

I'm sure you know but a MBA is missing quite a few features that a MBP has like more ports, better sound, better thermals and a better screen. I've probably forgotten a dozen other things. Comparing a Mac to a Windows PC is Apples to Oranges (pun intended). I'll be the first to agree they're overpriced for the feature set, but it's still a Mac and not an Windows PC.

Better off going for one of the 1349 14 inch macbook pros. It's more money but you're buying something 3 years already out of date (not obsolete, out of date).
I ordered one and I was unimpressed. Ended up getting one with a worn keyboard, 361 cycles on the battery, and 84% battery health. Came in a generic box.
Also came with a non-MagSafe USB C to C cable and an off brand 96w adapter that looked like an Apple charger.
There was also evidence that the MacBook was dropped at some point, but anyways.
Technically, almost everything was as-advertised, so I can't fault Amazon. The only major problem I had was the 96w brick.
"All Amazon Renewed purchases will come with accessories equivalent to those that shipped in the box when new." — M1 Max MBPs in a 16" size all included 140w bricks, not 96w.
Shipped and sold by Amazon.
Once again, I knew the risks and honestly this is YMMV. I just ended up buying a new machine.

The deal is sold and shipped by Amazon, which can reduce uncertainty for a renewed purchase.
The 16-inch M1 Max configuration can handle picture and video editing workloads for years.
The larger 16-inch display and improved audio can make the machine more satisfying for everyday use.
The $1K price can be reasonable compared with buying a new Mac, especially for a well-equipped M1 Max.
A renewed unit can arrive with worn keyboard condition and reduced battery health, including 361 cycles and 84% health.
The renewed package can include a non-MagSafe USB-C cable and an off-brand 96W adapter instead of the expected 140W brick.
The $1K cost can be viewed as poor value for a used five-year-old computer.
The 16-inch M1 Max may be overkill for most people unless heavy graphics, AI work, or editing demands the extra GPU.

This is overkill for most people. If you need a mac, newer generation m4 is a better option for you unless you need more RAM, storage and a better GPU
