Nice concept of solar charging but it means its in somewhat direct sunlight or right by a window so I doubt the temp measument would be an accurate overall room temp.

Depends. Some device can charge by any light source including those of incandescent or fluorescent.

The item photo clearly states it is "Powered by Pure Light" -- which I interpret as requiring actual full-spectrum sunlight, not artificial light (which isn't typically considered "pure").

It's a 2 pack. The black one is solar and battery powered. The white one is solar only. Not sure I like the branding on the front, it's rather obnoxious.

That's probably standard packaging fluff. This "tech" is decades old. Looks like old-school thin-film cells you'd find on calculators. And the liquid crystal display requires very little power, almost like e-ink.
