The HP OmniBook 5 stands out as a solid 16 inch everyday laptop with a 16 to 10 1920 by 1200 display, backlit keyboard, and enough speed for spreadsheets, taxes, and browsing. The screen is praised as better than expected, battery life is described as lasting all day, and the chassis is viewed as sturdier than comparable ASUS models. It is not a touchscreen, and the two USB C ports sit next to each other. Weight listings also conflict, so the shipping spec may need a closer look, a dependable pick for basic use.

Common Questions (4)

  • No, this model is listed as non-touch and owners confirm it does not have a touchscreen. If you want a similar-spec HP with touch, the OmniBook X Flip 2-in-1 is the closer match.

    Choosethischeeknoweturboc20LLLosingit

  • The display is 16:10 with a 1920x1200 resolution, not 1920x1080. That extra vertical space is a practical plus for browsing, spreadsheets, and general productivity.

    turboc20turboc20

  • Yes, this HP has a backlit keyboard, which is a concrete advantage over the compared eBay deal that lacked one. That matters if you type in dim lighting.

  • Battery life can last all day for basic use like spreadsheets, taxes, and browsing, and it also appears to charge quickly. It is a good fit if you want a lightweight everyday laptop rather than a heavy-workload machine.

I bought this months ago - it does _not_ have touchscreen.

I'm not very up to speed on the new/greatest Laptop specs, but curious why this deal isn't getting more love. It seems to be equal or better to spec of some of the BF front page deals (Lenovo Ideapad from B&H, Asus Vivibook from Walmart - both $400). Am I missing something?

Probably the shipping weight. 3.97lbs is what HP site shows.
I got the one with Ryzen 7 350, 1TB version about a month ago for $549. No complaints. And Costco has same spec'd one with touch for the same. I didn't care about touchscreen, only numpad and backlit keyboard.

How's the build quality? performance with multi tasking?

No issues or complaints. I like the 16" screen more than I expected, coming from 15 and 15.6 on previous Windows laptops and 14" Chromebooks. I'm not doing any heavy lifting with it. Could have got by with the 512GB drive. Mostly got it for spreadsheets, doing taxes, browsing, just the basics. Battery lasts all day, seems to charge pretty quickly but haven't measured it yet. Wished that the two USB-C ports weren't adjacent. Prefer having one on each side. No regrets. Previous one was a Dell Inspiron, from 2016 - didn't realize it was that old. Built like a tank and about as fast. Still works but getting it powered up took forever so it's slowly expiring.

Also this is not just 16" screen.
This is also 16:10 1920x1200. It is not 1920x1080.
A big plus.

I bought and returned it. It's customized one for Walmart and the build quality is not that great. And, because it was shipped from my local store, the only option I was given for return was to return in store and Walmart gift card as the mode of refund as the system was not giving any other options to the store associates. It was a pain communicating back and forth between Walmart associates and customer service associates wasting half a day and finally got a shipping label to ship it back to initiate the refund to my original mode of payment. So, beware if you plan to return for any reasons.
This is a fear, manufacturers having specific store SKUs where its hard to compare quality.
