I had a PS4 with a 500 GB hard drive, not 1000 GB and they still took it. About $500 for a PS5pro, not bad at all. 170$ for a 12-13 year old PS4 is awesome.

You can trade in the ps5 separately for $200.
I know Gamestop is very particular about have the HDMI and charging cables? Are these required for BestBuy as well?
But what about all those absolutely unsupported models. Amazon just gave 20% off a new Echo for my 10 year old Echo 1. Or that tablets and low end phones that stopped getting updates years ago. And you won't be able to sell a PS4 to the 3rd world or even EBay bargain bin wholesalers when it will be unsupported worldwide in a year.
My guess is they just "recycle" (landfill) them, because they'd rather ensure that enough users are on the latest models so they can continue to sell games, accessories, online accounts, etc. ven if they break even on theain hardware.
