ASUS ZenWiFi BT6 is a tri band WiFi 7 mesh kit that stands out for flexible three unit coverage and easy setup. The three identical units can each run as a standalone router, and the mesh can be split up or reset for separate use. In practice, the system has delivered instant device connections, stable wireless backhaul, strong whole home coverage, and solid performance for a 4K camera far from the nearest node. The main drawbacks are the 2.5G WAN port only, 1G LAN and wired backhaul limits, plus firmware related stability complaints and live TV buffering. It fits best for homes around 1 gig or less.
Homes with gigabit-or-slower internet, because the BT6 is described as fine up to 1 Gbps and avoids paying for extra 2.5 GbE capacity you cannot use.
Households replacing an older mesh system, because the three nodes can connect instantly and deliver stable wireless backhaul with strong whole-home coverage.
It is best suited for up to about 1 Gbps. The BT6 has only one 2.5G WAN port while the other ports are 1G, so it can bottleneck faster service; the BT8 is the better choice for internet speeds up to 2.5 Gbps.
The BT6 can work, but reported firmware problems have caused connectivity issues, buffering, and inconsistent speed-test results. It may be worth buying only with a good return policy if you want to try Wi‑Fi 7 mesh now.
Yes. All three BT6 units are identical, and the set comes pre-paired with two units preset for mesh use. The mesh units can reportedly be factory reset and used individually as standalone routers.
Yes. A 3-pack has been used with wireless MLO backhaul in a roughly 2,000 sq ft home with nodes about 35 ft apart, and it provided strong coverage even to a 4K camera about 95 ft away. It also supports creating an IoT network for smart devices.
Yes, you'd need at least two units. A router and a mesh. But based on what MaroonCabbage737 mentioned you might want to skip this set as ASUS seems to have issues with WiFi 7 mesh at the moment. May take time for them to get the firmware bugs fixed. Thanks for the note and sharing your experience. Based on this folks may want to consider ASUS's WiFi 6 or WiFi 6E mesh products instead. They are more stable.Based on what MaroonCabbage737 shared you could consider ASUS WiFi 6/6E mesh products instead. If you must have WiFi 7, you could try Netgear or TP-Link.
Does the BT8 have the same issue with the firmware ? If yes, is there another brand that is just a trustworthy and worthy to look at during the BF and Christmas sale ?

I suspect the BT6 and BT8 could potentially be affected as they're in the same product family (all are tri-band WiFi 7). I checked the firmware updates for these systems and they appear to be nearly the same version.
Latest firmware for both is very close. BT6=3.0.0.6.102_58272, BT8=3.0.0.6.102_58273.
Up to you if you wish to give it a try. If it fails to work you could return it if you buy from a place with a good return policy.
Asus has major problems with this product. Their tech support line has a recording saying that they have known connectivity problems because of a firmware glitch. Well after spending an hour on the phone, I have the new firmware and did get internet connection now but it is causing buffering and hangs continually on live TV streaming. Never a problem before this equipment was installed. They have more problems than I want to deal with. Also, their internet speed test is showing that I am getting 500Mbps. Ookla Speed test consistently shows 200-300Mbps. This is at least a two fold increase in internet speed from what I was getting with my old router but the connection is not consistent at all. So just because there is a huge download increase in speed, this router and node cannot stream live TV as well as my old router which has WiFi 4 (802.11n).
Is there a thread or post on this I can follow online anywhere? Want to follow to see when issue gets fixed. Ty
Just an FYI if anybody interested in these and find this post. So I purchased these and used them to replace my dual Asus xt8 mesh system. Transition went smoothly with out issue. All my devices connected instantly and I really like that I can create a Iot network for all of my smart devices. I'm using the 3 nodes wireless via mlo. One node is at 2882mbs and the other is connected at 3842. My home is right at 2000sqft and I have a triangle network setup with each node about 35ft apart. One is actually in my garage. I have about a 15,000sqft lot and I have coverage at everywhere inch. I have a 4k wireless camera that is about 95' from the nearest node and it shows full bars and works perfect. Now saying all of this my connection is only 100mb so it's more than enough for me. Imo if you have 1gb or less these will work perfect. I read others say firmware issues but so far, things have run perfect with nothing negative to report.

The three BT6 units can be split into standalone routers since each unit is identical.
The BT6 set can be used as a mesh because two units are preset for mesh operation.
The BT6 nodes can provide strong wireless coverage for a distant 4K wireless camera placement.
The BT6 system can support MLO wireless operation with fast device connections after upgrading from an ASUS XT8 mesh.
The BT6 has a wired bottleneck because only the WAN port is 2.5G while the other ports are 1G.
The BT6 wired backhaul is limited to 1G and lacks advanced VLAN support, which can prevent full Wi‑Fi 7 feature utilization.
Firmware updates reportedly fixed internet access but introduced buffering and hangs during live TV streaming.
Speed test results reportedly differ, with router tests showing around 500 Mbps while Ookla tests show about 200-300 Mbps.

As for other recommendations, I trust PC Mag and here is what they suggest: https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-b...variant=A#
Good luck.
