Tis the season! Folks want deals on laptops. Manufacturers want to dump dated hardware without scrapping it. The result is a lot of frankenbuilds with mostly o.k. hardware but 8 gigs of soldered ram or keyboards without backlighting or proprietary power ports. Read the specs carefully. Figure out what you (or your gift recipient) can live with (or what you're able/willing to upgrade/replace) and proceed with caution!

It is clearly mentioned in the description, "1x USB-C® (USB 10Gbps / USB 3.2 Gen 2), with Lenovo® PD 140W and DisplayPort™ 1.4". PD means power delivery, meaning it can charge via the USB-C port.

The one i see at best buy is a 3050 in it. This is better
The one I saw for $550 had a 6GB 4050, a 3.55GHz 6 core, and had an Ethernet port. I would call the HP better based on that.

While a budget laptop and a gaming laptop aren't mutually exclusive there' isn't a lot of overlap. You will need to make compromises. Between the two choices you've listed the considerations are:CPU - The Victus has a Ryzen 7 7445HS which is 54% faster in aggregate benchmark scores than the Ryzen 5 7235HS in the Lenovo.GPU - While both laptops feature the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, the Victus has less power, limiting its performance.Display - The technical specs are similar but users report the Lenovo's colors run together and have a pinkish hue.Power - The HP has a proprietary power connector. The Lenovo has USB-C power which is easier to replace and run more power through your laptop for improved performance. I'd choose the Victus - You'll notice the slower CPU long before seeing a difference in the GPU performance. You will notice the improved display in the HP. The proprietary power connector isn't ideal, but people lived with them for decades and no one died.
Which victus are you talking about?

I'm trying to find a budget gaming laptop for my 13 yo. Would you say the Victus at best buy is a better laptop than this one? Any other recommendations around $500? Was also looking at PCs but couldn't find anything in this price range
For a 13 year old, unless they're dead set on playing portably, I would probably look for a deal on a desktop instead (there's been $500-$600 deals this week that are more powerful than this). Less headaches. If gaming laptops get dusty at all inside, they're already pushing overheating territory because there's no space for the heat to dissipate. Some of them are really annoying to clean, with risk of breaking things in the process. If you want to dock it with the lid closed, they also tend to run hotter and louder. I have one that runs a little hot and sounds like a jet engine on resource-intensive games even when it's perfectly clean with fresh thermal paste.

I've been looking for a budget desktop for some of these reasons but can not find anything under $600 that matches these specs.

The Lenovo website says 140W power delivery on USBC port.
Except: USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (DisplayPort™ 1.4, 140W Power Delivery, 10Gbps data transfer rate)
Sorry just need clarification can you charge the laptop viia the usb C port or just other devices?

Got this for $488 with employer discount (oooh, extra $10. Yipee.) This will go to my college kid to upgrade his aging laptop that just got franken repaired to hold him over until graduation. The open box Victus I also got will go to my 13 year old who will think he is now a big deal not having to use my hand me down Lenovo Legion with the broken keyboard.

Thanks for the info. I searched for a budget gaming PC and couldn't find anything under $600 either that matches specs.

Thank you to all for info on HP Victus versus Lenovo. I managed to get the PayPal 20% on HP Victus but couldn't replicate the discount after I used it so I'll be staying with the HP Victus. Unfortunately no PCs in this price range as a PC would have been more robust.

If you are referring to the one with the rtx 5050, I think that's the better deal, because the cpu is leagues ahead and so is the gpu.

For an extra $100/150 over the Victus/this one, it's much more future proof, for just $2-4 per month (assuming 3-5 year life conservatively).

Btw, I bought it a few days ago, and it's arriving today.

Rare to see a 100% sRGB display at this price range. Strangely, this processor has no integrated graphics, so its battery life won't be so great.
