256 GB storage is a PITA today and only going to get harder over time as software continues to get more and more bloated (not to mention actually storing media, games, etc.). Yes the SSD and RAM upgrades from Apple are overpriced but such a small SSD also limits the effective lifetime of the device and that's something to take into consideration when going in for this price.

I was ~500 about 2 weeks ago. I didn't pull the trigger due to the small SSD size.

That price could not be for the latest M4 chip... lowest for these 2025 M4 has been this $750 price. The $500 was likely older past year's model.
