This is MF665Cdw, which has duplex scanning. 663 has a single sided ADF, and 662 has no ADF. The 7 series add the capability to add a second paper tray but still come in varieties with the single sided or no ADF. (And generically for Canon c=color d=duplex printing and w=wireless). So if you want duplex scanning this is it unless you need better than 600dpi.
My 634 from 2017 is virtually identical but I've been ignoring the low toner warnings for going on three years and I was already going to just buy this and use the starters for the next year for about the cost of a set of genuine replacements, but the points bonus makes it a no brainer. I'm super happy Best Buy didn't auto-match everyone else's $344 price or I would have already ordered one and missed this. Thanks OP

Some of the comments above are worth the read, others have no clue what they're saying.
This is a LASER printer, meaning it uses dry dusty toner, not wet, clog your print heads ink. This means is if you don't use it for 6 months or even a year it should fire right up and print perfect just like when you turned it off, this is something that an INK printer would fail at.
Yes toner is expensive, but look at HOW MANY PAGES of print you'll get out of each one and 9 times out of 10 you'll find it's about the same as ink printing page to page cost since an ink cartridge is usually 1/2 the size of a redbull can (og redbull, not the newer bigger cans) and only hold from 5 to 20ml and print 200 to 500 pages. A toner cartridge on the other hand is 10x the size and usually print 1000 to 2000 pages or more.
Sure replacement toner for this will cost more than the printer itself but depending on how much you're printing you may not need more toner for 1 to 2 years or more.
For the home office person that only prints a few times a year but would LOVE to have color this is an awesome deal. Even for a smaller office that finds color would be nice to add, also a great deal, but if you're printing a LOT then add a cheap b&w laser for those random 1000 pages a day of junk someone in your office is printing.

TLBig GrinR inkjets are for suckers. Laser is the way to go. This is a great deal.

Great deal. But ink replacement price is a doozy.
Can you use generics?

Probably, but all the companies try their best to make that difficult. I got the BW version for the lower cost per print and lower price too. At these discounts, if i was getting a color laser, I'd probably get the 7 series with the duplex scanning, but I just don't need color.

Canon is pretty good to date--things could always change--about not locking out toner cartridges via chip (like HP does...). The one downside is that toner level will typically not be monitorable by the printer, so when you run out, you get to find out the old-fashioned way. 😉

Even generics are $200+ for the set.

I can only speak to the 7 series, which I own, but there is a setting to not enforce official Canon cartridges. I worry it will disappear one day, but for now I'm safe.

Toner is a bit pricey, but unless you are printing a lot, the cartridges should last you a while.

Damn. No duplex scanning?
No go for me, let alone the expensive toner issue.

I'm so tempted to get this, but the toner issue is a major turn off.

so, it can autoscan (autofeed) a stack of docs and scan both sides?
How is the scanning on this thing compared to dedicated autofeed scanners?

I want to digitize a shit ton of old paper docs

Replacement toners are expensive, even the 3rd party one. Try models with 054 toners, replacement costs are much lower.

Was thinking about it...then checked the replacement toners. $140 for ONE color OEM replacement on EBay...worst I have ever seen. At those prices it should cook and clean the house for you as well lol. Absolutely crazy...hard pass.

No, it depends on the specific model. The ones that end in 5 (7x5, 6x5, 4x5) should have duplex scanning. The ones that end in another lower number do not.

Yeah, toner costs are why I went BW. By the time I need toner in a couple of years, prices should be down some anyway. Laser color is only good for documents anyway, and just stinks for photos.

I have the 731cdw and bought generics. Totally sucked. Would print with smears of color. I recently only bought the black and only print in black as an alternative. I have inkjet for color. Took a while but it finally stopped smearing the color inks.

I would not use generic

I have a similar model, MF634CDW. Yes, it allows generics, but there are some caveats. It made significantly more noise when printing using generics, no matter which brand of generics we used - loud enough that I thought the printer was tearing itself apart. The print quality was also not as good, we had issues with generic toner delaminating from the paper, leaving little white dots in the middle of prints.

No matter what, color lasers are going to run you a pretty penny on toner. I can tell you that if you buy the toner directly from Canon, there is a discount with each additional ordered cartridge up to 4, essentially making the 4th toner free. That still comes out to like $300 in toner for a full set...
