The Breville Bambino is a highly rated entry level espresso machine that is praised for fast heat up, reliable daily use, and solid espresso extraction from its 15 bar pump and 9 bar brewing limit. The compact machine is also seen as a strong value at this price, especially compared with new units. The main caution is Amazon resale condition and warranty risk, since used units can arrive scratched, dirty, cracked, or missing parts, and used products generally do not include a manufacturer warranty. It is a compelling option if the condition checks out and the return window is enough for peace of mind.
espresso shoppers who can verify condition quickly and use the return window because commenters note used units typically lack a manufacturer's warranty and that Amazon's 30-day return policy may be enough to detect a problem
people who want a reliable entry-level espresso machine and are buying it for themselves because one owner says the same unit has been "awesome and very reliable" and that $182 was a great price even though it isn't new
home baristas who care about proper espresso extraction rather than marketing "bar" numbers because the machine's pump is rated higher but the OPV regulates actual brewing pressure to around 9 bars for industry-standard extraction
buyers who mainly want fast, simple "insta coffee" at home because one commenter says they've used it since 2020 for quick drinks (boils water in seconds) and "never had any issues"
gift buyers who are relying on "like new" condition because commenters say Amazon resale can arrive scratched/dirty with missing parts or broken items, and they specifically recommend passing when buying as a gift
buyers who are sensitive to water-tank damage because at least one commenter received a "like new" unit with a cracked water reservoir and another found stress cracks on the plastic water-bin holder and recommended checking for cracks
people who need manufacturer warranty coverage because commenters warn that used products generally do not include a manufacturer's warranty-only the short return policy
buyers who are considering early-model used espresso machines because one commenter says early models had issues and that they would only consider a different used machine (Gaggia E24) rather than taking chances on early Breville units
Some units arrive scratched, dirty, taped up, or clearly used, and reported defects include missing parts, broken items, and cracked water reservoirs or stress cracks around the water-bin holder. It is worth checking the tank and plastic mounting points immediately and returning it if you see damage.
At $182, it is a strong discount versus a new unit bought for $269, and the Bambino is widely regarded as one of the best entry-level espresso machines. Some shoppers also mention getting it even lower with a PayPal or Amex points offer.
Yes. The pump is rated for 15 bars, but an internal over-pressure valve limits brewing pressure to around 9 bars, which is the standard target for espresso extraction. That setup is meant to avoid stressing the pump while still pulling proper espresso.
Used units generally do not include a manufacturer warranty, only Amazon's 30-day return window. That makes the deal attractive on price, but it also means you need to inspect it quickly for defects like pump issues, cracks, or missing parts.
there is 20% discount.
I am using a low-cost brand machine claims 20 bar, bought a year ago at ~$100, it is ok. not sure how this one compares, it's 9 bar
Look into Facebook marketplace. Seen some go for $50. People get these gifted and barely use them because they are either using pre ground coffee, have a terrible grinder or using old beans so they come out tasting bad. Or they don't drink coffee.
You would think that is a good idea... but the early models had issues which I do not think you want.
To me that is the problem.
The only espresso machine that I would consider buying used is the Gaggia E24 (uses a coppyer boiler... and there were issues with the aluminum boilers that were painted.
Yeah the lack of warranty is an actual issue for these devices. Not saying they'll fail all the time but there are issues that can happen with the pump.
I don't think you should be worried about the pump. It is RATED for 15 bars and the max it is allowed to go is 9 bars. This is done so you don't have to worry about stressing it.
Bought this and then cancelled order. Have the paypal 20% off deal (found on other thread) so bought new for only about $20 more. Worth it just for the warranty.
I was thinking about buying this as a gift but it sounds like Amazon resale is a bit shady so I'm going to pass. I would consider it for myself as I think 30 days is enough time to tell if it's a lemon but I already have the Breville impress which is great. Those with an Amex pay with points offer could get this even cheaper as it's concerned shipped and sold be Amazon. I was able to get the price to $167 with my pay with points offer
Clearly used... box tapped up (kind of funny). The filter barely showed signs of coffee usage but it did... after spending 20 seconds with a brush and soap, the filter became perfect again. The machine is in near mint condition EXCEPT FOR STRESS CRACKS ON THE PLASTIC BIN THAT HOLDS THE WATER!!! which I noticed after I washed the used filter.
To me it is as clear as black and white... the previous owner did not understand how to take out water bin, needs to lift up then out, he must of pulled really hard out without lifting up... slightly cracked it the plastic that holds the water bin in place. It's only a small stress crack but I am willing to bet it will get worse over time and I see the plastic peace breaking off.
I am pissed... clearly trying to get rid of BAD STOCK. Someone above also complained complained about a crack on theirs. It took me about 3 seconds to see the issue... I do not believe that a person who works for them accidentally missed it.
Please spend about 30 seconds looking at your bin, if you notice any crack or stress marks, I would return it. Again... I AM PISSED OFF AND MAY NEVER BY FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN FOR THEIR DECEPTIVE PRACTICES. I was looking at the Gaggia E24... maybe willing to pay for it.
YOU CAN NOT CALL SOMETHING "LIKE NEW" IF IT IS DAMAGED AT ALL!!!! Like am I the stupid person who believe them? Are we suppose to see their advertisements and assume they are always lying?

I got on chat with Amazon and they offered me 20% off if I keep the item. I stated I can not accept that because a new water tank is $50.00 (it may actually be more and it almost NEVER in stock... the stories even say that Breville asks their customers to buy it from a third party and ask them for reimbursement).
I explained, to make the item "used like new" it needs to be in like new condition and that would cost me $50.00. And they agreed.
So the stress crack that I have is REALLY SMALL... it is not actually on the water part of the tank but is the plastic part of the tank that sticks out and connects to the machine... like that small lip.
Now, it is time to make my first cup of coffee.
and I don't think it is going to get any worse. Now I am very happy... cause I got a DEAL.

And it rarely goes $300 or less.
