TiVo without a tuner?
So it's a streaming stick like firetv, Roku and onn devices, just what we needed another device to stream the same apps.

I got a couple of these years ago for 5 bucks at Walmart. These have a type c port on them separately from the micro usb for power. They will work with flash drives or an ssd in an enclosure in my experience. I'm tempted to grab another as they are great for projectors or wherever you wanna play movies without needing internet. Just download and go.

TiVo had a huge advantage with their DVR's but they couldn't make that next step to streaming work & Roku came in & took their ball & advantage.

Everything was in place for TiVo to take the lead.
Even this streamer, they screwed it up when they could have integrated with their DVR boxes.
Mind blowingly inept.
Now they (or the company that bought the original TiVo Inc) are getting out of the hardware business altogether.

Oh well, plenty of other good streaming devices out there though beyond this TiVo streamer. However, I am still riding my TiVo Bolt DVR +4 Minis with the fantastic guide & commercial skip until they die.

Oh!😥 Say it isn't so! I have two Roamio OTA and a mini. . Can't imagine a sweeter setup. Ticked me off royally when their new stuff for OTA only had two tuners 😡

Oh yeah nothing like MoCa connecting all the TiVos & allowing us to time shift throughout various rooms.
I just hate it that my streaming apps freeze on the Minis & I don't even try to stress the Bolt out for fear of breaking something.

But watching the shows I record anytime I want to in any room with good quality & jumping (not hunting) for the exact precise time in the recording or commercial skipping- ppl don't realize how nice that is.

I can't believe they're still making these. Performance is awful on these. Worse than the cheapest fire stick

My performance is fine on this, even with a ton of sideloaded apps. WAY better than most Firesticks.

This is the only stick streamer that has a separate USB data port for thumb drives. I load up 4k/60fps on it and play in my hotel room using VLC. Also, it has a neat feature that the remote automatically figures out the TV when you boot. So if you're hotel jumping, no need to manually reconfigure the remote each time. Killer.

I have a SHIELD, Fire sticks up the yanger, Fire Cube, Onn - and for travel this is my favorite. That extra USB port is clutch.

I have one of these. The usb C on the side is handy. but 8gb storage (4 free after setup) is painfull. That
Usb C would be great if you did not have to use one of the usb ports to add storage. Mine has a usb thumb drive in one port, for adoptable storage and power in the other.

The other pain is having to setup a tivo account.

Since there is no root and custom firmware (that I know of), you might as well go for the $20 ONN. You are bound to get updates a bit longer too.

Actually I would avoid any device with just 8gb storage.

If you have been following the firetv sideloading drama you would avoid firetv all together. Screwgle chromecast boxes have started setting up "play protect" as a default option that you at this point can get around, but since they have kind of started down the same road scammerzon is on (looking at your installed apps and disable the ones they don't like), I would start looking at other options, possibly china boxes that actually come with usb ports and enough system memory to make them a bit more expandable. Possibly a linage build on a raspberry pi would be the cleanest path.. Screwgle and scammerzon are talking to your box as if their head quarters was in China, so pick your poison..

My Tivo4k lives in my parts box and only comes out when I have a idea that I think might get around its shortcomings.

Yep. Have the same one for $5
I have it in my van with a USB stick full of movies for the kids on long trips. Works great for that

you can sideload apps onto TiVo Stream, though the process requires enabling developer options and manually installing APK files. Since TiVo Stream runs on Android TV, you can use methods similar to other Android-based devices. Here's a general approach:

  1. Enable Developer Mode – Go to Settings > Device Preferences > About, then tap Build Numbermultiple times until Developer Mode is activated.
  2. Allow Unknown Sources – Navigate to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Special App Access > Install Unknown Apps, then grant permission to a file manager or browser.
  3. Transfer and Install the APK – You can use a USB drive, cloud storage, or apps like Downloader to transfer and install the APK file.
  4. Use ADB (Optional) – If needed, you can sideload apps via Android Debug Bridge (ADB) using a PC.

I just received this. My main purpose was to be able to watch movies offline with Kodi app. Works like a charm. Plugged in usb-c drive loaded with my files to the device and I was good to go.
