This Fire HD 10 deal stands out as a cheap large screen tablet for media, kids, comics, photo frames, and home dashboard use. The slate color variant is repeatedly confirmed as the Fire HD 10 Plus with 4GB of RAM, and Fire Toolbox or sideloaded Play Store support can make it more usable for browsing, streaming, and simple apps. The main drawback is speed, with repeated reports of sluggish performance, memory limits, and weak long term support. USB C hub charging is also problematic, and the tablet is best suited to light, mostly passive use.

  • Parents setting up a kid-safe streaming tablet, because it handles PBS Kids, Netflix, and YouTube Kids well when used for light, mostly passive screen time.

  • Home dashboard and camera-monitor setups, because it works fine as a glanceable display for Home Assistant, Fully Kiosk, and Wyze feeds.

  • People wanting a cheap digital photo frame, because it can boot straight into a picture-frame app and is cheaper than dedicated frames.

  • Comic and graphic-novel readers, because the larger color screen works well for downloaded comics and calibre-web downloads.

  • People who need smooth web browsing or multitasking, because it can reload pages, run one app at a time, and feel extremely sluggish.

  • Users who want USB-C hub docking with charging and peripherals, because the port implementation lacks proper pass-through and can trigger a moisture-detected shutdown.

  • People who need a tablet for custom Android installs or Fire Toolbox-free modding, because root and bootloader unlock are unavailable and some hacking paths are patched.

  • Buyers expecting long-term software support, because there are no security or OS updates and newer Fire tablets cannot be rooted or bootloader-unlocked.

eh is it for this one, because if you go to 12 minutes in it is apparently a nightmare to get out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGwbQsLCj5o
That guy did it incorrectly. Let the rubbing alcohol seep into the seam between the battery and the board, then wait about 10 minutes before pulling them out, it will make the process much easier.

This is the same deal that's been going around all day. You can get a like new grade A 32 GB Fire HD 10 for 25 bucks and change. At that price I wouldn't consider the grade C.

God help your soul if you do.

According to the Wikipedia page of fire tablets the 4GB variant wasn't available until 2023. So for the 2021 model it's 3gb of ram.
Agree, says 3gb on the description at Amazon

There are lots of USB hubs that allow charging. I have one right now for my Steam Deck(which only comes with one USB C port) that allows 100 watts to pass through the USB hub while I am using it for high-speed data transfers and connecting other peripherals like a mouse and keyboard. Just search Amazon and you'll find lots of reasonably priced USB hubs that allow this.
Of course there are USB hubs that allow charging; the issue is that Amazon's USB-C implementation on the Fire tablets is extremely barebones and incompatible with these hubs. Amazon basically routes only power and USB 2.0 data.
Your post underscores what I was trying to point out--most people expect that devices with USB-C (like your Steam Deck) will support USB Power Delivery and the Alt Modes for HDMI out, etc., which are needed for such hubs to fully work, but these capabilities are not supported on the Fire tablets. E.g., on my Fire Tablet, the moment I connect power to a USB-C hub, it throws a "moisture detected" error and shuts down the port.

I have the exact same tablets from couple of last sales, the slate colour, and can confirm that Slate colours will come with 4gb ram. they are the special 'plus' variants.
I got in this too late This slate's gone. I had the plus and it was 4 GB. I gave it to my mother. I thought I'll order another one but then realized it was only 3 GB for a 64 in black. Mine said plus that I gave my mom that plus was the "extra" RAM. I canceled the order I'm glad I read your post I don't want one that is not 4gb. I had forgotten I got the plus for a reason.

if you are looking for the CHEAPEST tablet you should buy... (it was $70 a few days ago, used and it had 8GB of RAM)...

But now it is $90 and it has 6GB of RAM. But it still is the CHEAPEST tablet that runs pretty darn well.

If I can use Firebox, they'll be easily worth it for the kids. $18 for a scratch/dent or $24 for refurb.. hmm.

I have had good luck with these setting them up as digital photo frames. Firetoolbox works, but you aren't going to be able to remove all of the Amazon bloatware. But mine boots up, and auto loads the picture frame app, and that's what I wanted.
Hi, can you let me know what picture frame app you use?

Can these be hacked with Fire Toolbox or does that not work anymore with the latest updates on these tablets?
yes it can be hacked. As long as you do not connect it to wifi before hacking, and the OS does not update to a newer, less-supported version.

These are paperweights. Both before and after fire toolbox it didn't have the horsepower to browse the web with a single tab.
I woudl'nt say its THAT bad.
but yeah its bad. if you value your time. don't buy it.

I had it and did all the tweaks to lean it up but still feels very slugglish.

Welp only 32GB Black ones left (both refurb and scratch/dent). I'd consider one if I could still get it in slate color, those always seemed to run faster.
