I think you may have misread it - I just checked the Wikipedia page, and it says "Also higher RAM versions were released: 3 GB RAM in the HD 8 Plus in 2020 and 4 GB RAM in the HD 10 Plus in 2021." Not 2023.

I and hundreds of others have gotten this HD10 Slate deal before. Actually using it rn Wink checking the Dev options says 4.0 GB and About -> "Fire HD 10 Plus (11th generation)".

Happy to dm pic if needed, but definitely can confirm. Also look up past Slickdeals threads and you'll see that others also confirmed. If I recall correctly, a woot representative confirmed that "Slate" color option (which isn't a valid color for the non plus version) is a plus version, in one of the earlier threads.

GLHF!

I have the exact same tablets from couple of last sales, the slate colour, and can confirm that Slate colours will come with 4gb ram. they are the special 'plus' variants.

Depends on your use case. For as much as they're handicapped they're okay for casual consumption. I'd prefer a cheaper Chinese tablet that has more storage and doesn't require as much hacking to get Google apps working (and pokemon go! No gps)

This Fire HD 10 deal stands out as a cheap large screen tablet for media, kids, comics, photo frames, and home dashboard use. The slate color variant is repeatedly confirmed as the Fire HD 10 Plus with 4GB of RAM, and Fire Toolbox or sideloaded Play Store support can make it more usable for browsing, streaming, and simple apps. The main drawback is speed, with repeated reports of sluggish performance, memory limits, and weak long term support. USB C hub charging is also problematic, and the tablet is best suited to light, mostly passive use.

You can open pages, it's just that trying to interact with the page would reload it half the time because it ran out of memory.
What kind of pages are you interacting with? The thing has 3GB of ram. It shouldn't run out of memory unless whatever page you are looking at has more video ads than content.

I would advise caution buying these as I believe they do not connect to WPA3 wifi networks

There was an exploit out there that allowed to block FireOS updates. It also allowed custom launcher:

If one gets a tablet from the deal, don't let it connect to WiFi, and try to block the updates.

Interestingly, Amazon is offering $20 + 20% off the next tablet when trading in a Fire 10

So these tablets can't run Fire Toolbox? That's been patched?

You have to install a custom launcher through this method?

You couldn't pay me to get another cheap Fire tablet. I've had two that worked just fine for a good while, but eventually they both ran so slowly that I couldn't really load any websites or watch any videos, and it takes almost thirty seconds just to wake the damn thing up from sleep. I don't know whether it's poor specs or Amazon using firmware updates to intentionally cripple old hardware, but I'd suspect the latter since they both worked fine before.

Can these be hacked with Fire Toolbox or does that not work anymore with the latest updates on these tablets?
a post on reddit says this 2021 model is the "last/best" model that you can use fire toolbox on, I haven't looked further than that...

You can just side load the Google Play store directly. You don't need fire toolbox. These are great for kids.
