The Galaxy Watch7 Metro promo is a low upfront way to get Samsung's LTE smartwatch, and it can also be used as a normal Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS watch if LTE is not needed. Community notes point to easy pairing with Samsung phones and even iPhone via the Bridge Wear app, with a bright screen and smooth performance. The main friction is Metro ordering and activation, which can require an existing account, a linked phone line, and waiting for delivery before the next order. Several reports also flag that the watch may be tied to Metro service for a long period.
Android phone owners wanting a standalone LTE watch, because it can pair, sync messages, and use its own number without carrying the phone.
Shoppers comfortable activating through Metro's Android flow, because setup and line activation work from the order-status page and can be done after delivery.
Online orders can work without being on Metro for 30 days, and some shoppers were able to add the watch line after 15 days or exactly 30 days. A one-time 72-hour extension was also used to place the order after the 30-day window.
The watch is reported as factory unlocked in IMEI checks, but multiple reports say Metro's software keeps it SIM locked to Metro for about 365 days. It still works as a Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi watch, but non-Metro SIMs can show "Emergency calls only."
Yes. You can delete the eSIM and disable LTE, and it will function as a BT/Wi‑Fi/GPS watch paired to your phone. It can still handle calls, texts, and notifications through the paired phone connection.
Yes, but the account has limits and the next order often has to wait until the prior one is shipped or activated. Some users were able to buy two watches on one phone line by ordering the second right after the first was marked shipped, while others hit eligibility blocks.
The deal price is $39.99 total when you add the $10 smartwatch line, with tax extra. Some orders show the watch at $29.99 plus the first month of the Connected Smartwatch line charged upfront.
Activation can be done from Metro's order-status page after shipping, and some users say the email "Activate Service" link is not the right one. The watch line may appear in the app as "Phone-first Unknown Device" until the watch arrives and is paired.
Mine also shows "factory unlocked". So it would seem that these should work with any carrier. If anyone has tried with another carrier please report back.
they are factory locked to metro. They are XAA model watches(typically unlocked) but they are still locked to metro. Tried loading multiple sims after paired to my s25, att, fi, spectrum, they will not search for other networks and any sim that isnt metro shows "emergency calls only".
works perfectly fine as a bt watch paired with phone. just know it is sim locked for 1 year.
After you install the Esim, you have to go into the watch settings, then find the setting to "use this plan"
and also turn on hte "always on LTE" or whatever it is. Then the phone will work on the plan. If you have it set to "auto" it will try to work with the phone most of the time.
Have you tried these steps and got the watch to work with another carrier?
i have my ultra working with helliums free phone plan. Weird my gw3 won't work with it tho.
i havent' tried this metro because i gave it to my wife and she' doesn't want lte.
But, your ultra or gw3 are not from Metro though like this GW7. I was wondering if those steps you mentioned actually worked with this Metro GW7 from this deal?

the software is the same. you will need to do those steps regardless. if you don't do them, it won't work. SO people need to know that. i'm still waiting to find out if metro is locked like you are. do you have the watch? have you tried it?

does not work. it is sim locked. cannot add apns, cannot search for networks with any other sim then metro. ssu lock is active on the watch in the software even if websites show the imei is an XAA model.

So if we want to sell it then it is just a BT/WiFi/GPS like the one without LTE then..is that correct? So do I need to open the box, power it up, and then delete the eSIM and disable LTE so that the next person can just pair it with their Sansung phone without any issues? Anyway to sell it without opening the box and not having issues with new buyer setting it up without the LTE service?

yes, you can sell it sealed as a BT/WIFI/GPS if you want to. so there is no esim out of the box on the watch. to activate an esim you'd need to setup the watch with galaxy wearable and add it or go into settings after and add the esim from the paired phone. otherwise after turning it on and setting it up it essentially is just a bt watch. theyll have access to add their own esim, but likely wont be able to connect. itll pair otherwise just fine. no need to open it to sell it. When i got my watch, i just set it up and paired it with my other samsung on a different carrier, and have been using it over bt/wifi.

So with using as as a BT/WiFi device and paired to your Samsung phone then you get calls, messages, notifications, etc. on the watch as well if you are carrying your phone with you since it as an extension of your phone now. Can you answer/place calls, text messages, etc. by using just the watch as long it is connected by BT/WiFi to your phone I assume. Similar to what a Apple non-LTE watch is paired to an iPhone then.

Android phone owners wanting a standalone LTE watch, because it can pair, sync messages, and use its own number without carrying the phone.
Samsung phone owners who only need Bluetooth watch features, because LTE can be disabled and it still works as a normal smartwatch.
Shoppers comfortable activating through Metro's Android flow, because setup and line activation work from the order-status page and can be done after delivery.
People pairing a watch with a Samsung device on another carrier, because it can connect and work normally over Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi.
Shoppers who need reliable cellular use on Helium or Tello, because the watch can install an eSIM yet still fail with emergency-calls-only behavior.
Buyers expecting other carriers' SIMs to work, because non-Metro SIMs can show emergency calls only and the watch can be SIM locked for a year.
iPhone owners who want to activate and manage the watch directly, because activation can only be done on Android.
People who need all-day battery life, because the watch can barely last a day with minimal use.
