About this Book:
- You know what's worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Being stuck with her prize-winning show cat. And you know what's worse than that? An alien invasion, the destruction of all man-made structures on Earth, and the systematic exploitation of all the survivors for a sadistic intergalactic game show. That's what.
- Join Coast Guard vet Carl and his ex-girlfriend's cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive the end of the world—or just get to the next level—in a video game–like, trap-filled fantasy dungeon. A dungeon that's actually the set of a reality television show with countless viewers across the galaxy. Exploding goblins. Magical potions. Deadly, drug-dealing llamas. This ain't your ordinary game show.

We read all the books first. Coincidentally, we just started the audiobooks during a long Thanksgiving drive home. They are every bit as great as advertised. That voice actor is a star.

FWIW, McDonald's is wildly popular too.

Books 5 and 7 are my favorite of the series. Lots of great world building in both.
Like everyone said, the audiobooks take things to another level. I recommend going in blind and listening. It's what I did over a year ago and I've now gone through each book multiple times.

The books I'd say are worth owning though whether someone was going to read them or not. As others have said, bonus material at the end and they're just beautiful books in general. Great art on the dust covers.
The first three books are excellent, the best in the genre and a lot of fun for anybody who enjoys silly humor. The next two go downhill but are still a lot of fun. Then it's a mess.
I really hope there will be an anime adaptation with Mappa or Madhouse at the helm.
I picked up the book just to have lol

Right. The story doesn't even get warmed up until midway through book three. From book four on, it's an incredible ride.
