This DeWALT thickness planer is valued as a heavy duty tool for finish carpentry, rough or hard stock, and tricky grain where straight knives can tear out. The included wings help reduce snipe, the extra blades are useful, and a digital thickness gauge can make board settings more precise. The stand with wheels adds mobility in a small shop, but the planer is very loud, throws a lot of sawdust, and is very heavy. It feels like a strong fit when the extra accessories and shop setup matter.
Finish carpenters flattening challenging hardwood, because the planer handles hard stock and bulk work consistently while reducing tearout on figured grain.
Woodworkers fighting snipe on long boards, because the included wings help reduce snipe even though they do not eliminate it.
Small-shop makers needing a mobile planer station, because the wheeled stand lets the machine move out of the way and makes bowed or twisted lumber usable.
Users who want finer thickness setup, because a digital gauge can set board thickness down to 0.001 inch.
Quiet indoor workshops, because the planer is extremely loud and throws a lot of sawdust during feeding.
Anyone expecting a lightweight machine, because it is very heavy and may need garage delivery or in-store pickup.
Woodworkers who need a snipe-free finish, because the wings only reduce snipe and do not eliminate it.
People who need a trouble-free machine, because one unit was reported dead after use.
