According to the rtings review, besides the number, gen 2 had a huge jump in audio reproduction accuracy, is about the same in noise cancellation, with the gen 2's having usbc audio capabilities that the gen 1 doesn't have.

you can search for the gen 2 reviews. tldr: gen 2 has made a lot of improvements.

however, the gen 1 are fantastic, and I still love them.

Where I personally would want the gen 2 is...

gen 1 is completely wireless. you can't connect them via a USB-C cable to a computer or phone for a wired connection. the USB-C is only for charging. gen 2 does allow a wired audio connection if you want. because it now has a wired connection, you can get the best audio quality including lossless audio. no more bluetooth codec or compression over bluetooth. I also didn't think the omission was bad until I encountered situations where I did want it.

The other features sound great (better sound, more features, better battery life) but I was already happy with the gen 1

Recommend Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 over both. Superior build quality and audiophile level nuance, for $200 or less. The only area where Bose & Sony win are noise canceling - otherwise the PX7 S2 are better in every way. Here they are factory refurbished for $150, maybe less with any coupon code or cash back available; https://www.bowerswilkins.com/en-...ished.html I own the PX7 S2 and Sony 1000XM4, which I recommend over the XM5s because the XM5S are held together by hope and marketing - the physical hinges break from normal/light use.
Thank you for the feedback! I got xm5 for about $200 and seeing if worth spending the extra $50 for these Bose? Noise cancellation is the main thing that I care about. I do feel that the Sony xm5 feel little tight particularly on a long flight 8+ hours. Just not sure if these older model Bose are worth the extra $50 for my use case? Maybe hold off for gen 2 in case they come under $300?

heck with them not mentioning the version details. Recently there was a deal for a pair of Bose headphones at $149. What's the difference between that model and the one posted here?I've been using my QC45s, and after about five years they're finally starting to wear down. I'm thinking about upgrading, but the price on these still makes me hesitate.
Stick to QC45. Ultra sound is not a lot better if QC are 9/10 QC ultra are 9.5. But comfort goes from to 10 to 6. Ultras were too tight for me and the extra features where meh...

This is $230 refurbished from bose on ebay. They come with 2 years ebay and 1 year bose warranty. Bose refurbished are like apple, they basically come new.

Comfort is essential. I actually sleep with these on thanks to the noise cancellation feature. My main use is for calls, while noise isolation and music come as a second and third priority. Anyway, the price has changed, so the deal seems off now.

How do you like them comfort-wise compared to the QC 45? I had QC 35 and have QC 45 and like them because they are the only headphones I can wear for hours without pain.
