Not sure about Alienware branch, but I swore off Dell as a gaming rig because they were always so proprietary, or at the very least, very difficult to upgrade. Are these different?

That's not a bad deal considering the prices of parts, these days. Might be one of the few times I can remember when you might come out close to cheaper with pre-built, or at least close enough to not warrant the work involved. (Just a personal opinion, I don't want to wake up the DIY crew.)

The new Alienware Area-51 is supposedly not using proprietary parts anymore and you can upgrade with 3rd party parts.

Oh wow the ram and ssd upgrade prices are actually reasonable (now). I would go for those if you're splurging on this.

As someone who just built a PC with similar specs, this is a HELL of a deal, but make sure to upgrade the RAM and SSD as OP mentioned in the original post.

Thoughts on swapping 5070ti for the 5080 to save $200, then putting $150 back on the upgraded ram and ssd?

I think I'd rather just spend the extra and get both. Yeah, 5080 vs 5070ti isn't an enormous jump, but we're finally in comfortable 4k territory even in triple a games unless they're borderlands 4 tier unoptimized. There is no reason you'll need to upgrade a 5080 in the immediate future.

Heck, I just bought one to replace my 2021 era 3080ti, and if you're happy with 2k that would still be more than enough for almost anything.
