It's a rebadged Z93A that was sold in Europe last year. It was supposed to come to the US last year, but never did.
It uses a regular EX panel like the LG C series, but includes a heat sink and the high end audio found on the Z95A.
It being labeled MLA on the website is incorrect. Panasonic said they'll be correcting the website ASAP.

This 77 inch Panasonic Z8 is being framed as a strong value OLED with premium audio and picture processing at a lower price than comparable LG C5 deals. The built in Technics tuned speaker system, Dolby Vision and HDR10 plus support, natural color tuning, and strong upscaling for sub 4K content stand out, along with the 144 hertz panel and bright, high end feel. The main knocks are Fire TV, which is widely seen as clunky, ad heavy, and best bypassed with an external streamer, and the TV is also described as thick and weighty. A solid option if you want a feature rich OLED and can ignore the built in smart platform.
people who are okay using an external streamer (Apple TV/ONN/Roku) instead of the TV's built-in Fire TV interface, because multiple commenters said you can bypass the FireOS experience by using a dedicated box and even suggested it can be a "10x better experience" than relying on the built-in OS.
people who want a 77" OLED mainly for streaming and would rather not buy an external soundbar because they like the idea of built-in sound and a built-in next-gen tuner, since commenters said the built-in sound setup can save upfront cost and that they specifically chose it for the built-in 3.0 ATSC next-gen tuner plus Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support.
buyers who watch a lot of sub-4K or low-bitrate content because commenters said Panasonic/Sony upscaling and artifact cleanup are "top of the food chain," and that Panasonic can be slightly better at upscaling/cleanup in low-bitrate material.
home theater shoppers who care about natural color and prefer Panasonic's processing over "punchier" out-of-the-box looks, since commenters said Panasonic tends to deliver more natural colors compared with LG's more punchy default color.
gamers who plan to use the TV primarily for console gaming and not for lots of app-based streaming, because one commenter said FireOS isn't a deal breaker for them since they planned to use it mainly for PS5/Switch 2 gaming and to keep kids out of the content.
people who want the TV's built-in smart interface to be smooth and ad-free, because commenters repeatedly called Fire TV OS "garbage," complained about frequent ads/previews and lag, and warned that FireOS can add ads/tracking and get worse over time.
people who are comparing brightness head-to-head with LG C-series in SDR and watch in a bright room, because commenters said the Panasonic can look "tad dimmer" than the LG C5 and that LG is brighter in SDR (handling glare better).
buyers who want to rely on the TV's built-in OS long-term without platform-change risk, because commenters warned that smart-TV OS updates can cause problems (including bricking) and recommended not relying on the built-in Fire TV/Google TV experience.
buyers who already own a Sonos soundbar and don't want extra hardware attached to the TV, because commenters said the built-in soundbar is a dealbreaker aesthetically/needs-wise if you already have Sonos.
shoppers who are very sensitive to OLED thinness, because commenters said this set is unusually thick for an OLED (including being "THICK for an OLED" when viewed from the side).
people who specifically want Panasonic's TV business to be stable for warranty/software support, because one commenter flagged risk that Panasonic could exit the TV business again, which could affect warranty, software updates, and support.

But seriously, probably because the 48 Samsung Oleds are not QD-Oled, only 55/65/77 are.
The only downside I see is that it runs Fire TV, which I think is not great.

However, Panasonic is in a precarious position in relation to their TV business. They may exit it altogether (see below article), which is a shame because they just came back into the U.S. market in 2024 after first existing in 2016. I don't know what that means for warranty, software updates and support if they do exit the business again, but I just want to point out the potential risk.
