This 77 inch Panasonic Z8 is being framed as a strong value OLED with premium audio and picture processing at a lower price than comparable LG C5 deals. The built in Technics tuned speaker system, Dolby Vision and HDR10 plus support, natural color tuning, and strong upscaling for sub 4K content stand out, along with the 144 hertz panel and bright, high end feel. The main knocks are Fire TV, which is widely seen as clunky, ad heavy, and best bypassed with an external streamer, and the TV is also described as thick and weighty. A solid option if you want a feature rich OLED and can ignore the built in smart platform.

  • people who are okay using an external streamer (Apple TV/ONN/Roku) instead of the TV's built-in Fire TV interface, because multiple commenters said you can bypass the FireOS experience by using a dedicated box and even suggested it can be a "10x better experience" than relying on the built-in OS.

  • people who want a 77" OLED mainly for streaming and would rather not buy an external soundbar because they like the idea of built-in sound and a built-in next-gen tuner, since commenters said the built-in sound setup can save upfront cost and that they specifically chose it for the built-in 3.0 ATSC next-gen tuner plus Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support.

  • buyers who watch a lot of sub-4K or low-bitrate content because commenters said Panasonic/Sony upscaling and artifact cleanup are "top of the food chain," and that Panasonic can be slightly better at upscaling/cleanup in low-bitrate material.

  • home theater shoppers who care about natural color and prefer Panasonic's processing over "punchier" out-of-the-box looks, since commenters said Panasonic tends to deliver more natural colors compared with LG's more punchy default color.

  • gamers who plan to use the TV primarily for console gaming and not for lots of app-based streaming, because one commenter said FireOS isn't a deal breaker for them since they planned to use it mainly for PS5/Switch 2 gaming and to keep kids out of the content.

  • people who want the TV's built-in smart interface to be smooth and ad-free, because commenters repeatedly called Fire TV OS "garbage," complained about frequent ads/previews and lag, and warned that FireOS can add ads/tracking and get worse over time.

  • people who are comparing brightness head-to-head with LG C-series in SDR and watch in a bright room, because commenters said the Panasonic can look "tad dimmer" than the LG C5 and that LG is brighter in SDR (handling glare better).

  • buyers who want to rely on the TV's built-in OS long-term without platform-change risk, because commenters warned that smart-TV OS updates can cause problems (including bricking) and recommended not relying on the built-in Fire TV/Google TV experience.

  • buyers who already own a Sonos soundbar and don't want extra hardware attached to the TV, because commenters said the built-in soundbar is a dealbreaker aesthetically/needs-wise if you already have Sonos.

  • shoppers who are very sensitive to OLED thinness, because commenters said this set is unusually thick for an OLED (including being "THICK for an OLED" when viewed from the side).

  • people who specifically want Panasonic's TV business to be stable for warranty/software support, because one commenter flagged risk that Panasonic could exit the TV business again, which could affect warranty, software updates, and support.

Wow.... Panasonic. Haven't seen that name since my plasma screen days
Panasonic stopped selling TVs in the US in 2016. They kept selling TVs in Asia and Europe. They had some of the best OLEDs in the past 4 years. They came back to the US 2 years ago but I believe they only bring their entry level oleds. Their flagship is available in Japan.

The Panasonic will be much brighter most likely.Edit: to the genius who down voted me, the B series is the dimmest OLED of the major brands so sorry if that offends you.
I gave you a like 😂 .. yes the B5 is 40% darker than the C5.

This is made by TCL i believe. A lot of the traditional TV manufactures have sold that sector to Chinese. Philips, Panasonic etc.
You are talking out of your ass. TCL does not make OLEDs. Panasonic is still Japanese owned and they make their TVs. You are confusing them with Toshiba who sold their TV business to Hisense.

Using an LG display panel
Any brand selling OLED panels are getting them from LG and any company selling QD-OLEDs are getting them from Samsung.

75" Other brand in costco are very less
Those are not OLEDs. OLED panels are cut as 42", 48" 55" 65" 77" and 83".

The whole beauty of an OLED is the thinness of the screen when viewed from the side! This is THICK for an OLED Wink Samsung really nailed it with their S95F OLED models.
There is a reason why samsung does that and that is so you can get a soundbar from them. Panasonic and Sony are thicker because they still believe in not only giving better picture, color quality and processing but also better sound.

I would highly recommend, for any smart TV, get a dedicated streamer vs using what's built in, regardless if firetv, Roku, Google TV, etc. Not only do dedicated streamers work better/smoother/faster (even a $30 onn box), but it also prevents your TV from getting laggy. All the smart TVs I've seen rely on the smart TV OS for TV functions too, like changing inputs, etc.

These smart TV integrations often put the bare minimum in for storage, ram, processing power, etc. So if you bloat it with apps, or an app hangs on you, simple tasks like changing inputs/adjusting volume can lag, which is extremely annoying. Keep the tv os stock and debloated and use a dedicated streamer. All modern ones have HDMI cec control so you can still use one remote for everything. Just my 2 cents.

I really wish TV makers would make the smart interface separate from the core TV functions.

Unfortunately, Panasonic has chosen to sully their reputation with Amazon Fire OS and its ads and tracking. NEVER plug this into the internet.

Why does it have to be firetv instead of googletv? My firetv tv has been non stop playing junk ads / previews and slowing down my internet.
GoogleTV is trash, too. Why can't TV makers just deliver TELEVISIONS without the bloat? Panasonic really sullied their rep by including Amazon's adware/tracking FireOS.

B5 is 40% darker than the C5, specular highlights are not as impactful
