My guess is that it generally does, if you wany to use the full functionality.
You can get some storage functionality if you connect this to a SmartHub or whatever it is called, which comes separately

I was going to get into Arlo a couple years ago but they had kinda went less compatible with everyone at a time that the industry was trying to find ways to interconnect.

Like @dfw6000 said, SmartThings has always worked at trying to make all things work together however that's not the way I really wanted to go if I was going to invest a lot in cameras.

This interested me because it looks like a big discount on clearance, these are from 2022.

"Arlo Pro 5S 2K Spotlight Camera" exact model VMC4360P-1BYNAS

Looked up the Verge mention as they've been pretty good on Smart home stuff for the last 4 years, as far as level headed

https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/...m-preorder

I see this in 2024

"Considering Arlo's cameras once came with a free seven days of cloud storage, this is a huge increase. Even if you bought a video doorbell in 2022 and were paying $2.99 monthly for it, you're now paying more than double that."

"One way around this is to use an Arlo Smart Hub, which starts at $99 and can record video for some Arlo cameras locally. Unfortunately, you lose smart alerts for people, pets, packages, and vehicles, the ability to add activity zones to the camera, and other software features accessible in the Arlo app."

https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/3...e-increase

FYI I think the reason I think highly of The Verge on this topic is author Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, she is very good telling all sides of all the smart home questions without bias to me

I don't mind paying for cloud as the things I want in notifications and recording etc are going to be cloud needed and such

If these are still going to be great going forward or if their security system looks good still I would take a stab

skip arlo, their monthly fees are way too high. they'll give an ok sub price the first year of around $99-149, while after that year they will try to up your rate in the $250-400 range. i dropped them after they tried to charge me $400 for the 2nd year when the contract said year 2 would be $149, but they insisted i had to rebuy new equipment to get that. arlo is a scam compared to other security systems.

Yes, skip Arlo. No more event video without subscription.

Arlo products are trash. there's a reason this is so cheap. Reolink is infinitely better.

i had an arlo back in 2017. They worked for a while but over time they died out. I wouldn't purchase again and would go with dedicated IP Cameras. reolink for example is excellent for the price

don't even invest into it unless you have home base

subscription is the main business model for arlo but with home base it will be a home kit bridge and local storage

That's the question at hand. Many users(reviews) say it is not syncing with the home base station. Even on WiFi this camera has horrible reviews. Personally I would steer clear of this one, however I see this set, https://www.bestbuy.com/product/a...JJ8QV849S9, looking to be more reasonable with reviews and less issues. 40 dollars more though, also don't see any base station compatibility. They are trying to get rid of the base station and go back to making money.

I would never touch Arlo camera again. Their customer support is complete trash despite charging exorbitant subscription fee. Stay away!

I need a camera system that doesn't have subscription but will allow me to view event video with notification. I currently have Eufy but just the 2 cameras. Is there something better before I start dropping $$$ into the Eufy base station and additional cameras?

As others said, stay away from arlo. Sub par products and they keep pushing you towards expensive monthly subscriptions.
