Note the crazy screen option at 1000 nits. See reviews on a model with the base screen:

Good luck!

These screens get bad reviews. Look at notebookcheck.

Are you referring to their reviews of the 250 nits rated displays (which are all deservedly harsh, and which seem to be the model they most commonly select for testing) or the Sure View 1,000 nits option. I'll link to one such review (from a totally unrelated model laptop).
https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-...587.0.html

The short version is that it has lots of downsides and some unique quirks of operation. Noted issues include:
  • Limited viewing angles with or without Sure View activated.
  • Brightness regulation issues; achieving lower brightness levels requires activating Sure View, which further restricts viewing angles.
  • A PWM backlight at all levels of brightness; this 56.7Hz flicker could cause eyestrain.
I think if you're the kind of user who either almost never uses your laptop screen, or lives with it straight in front of themselves at all times, these quirks could be accomodated. Personally one of my most common use cases is having the laptop offset next to a primary desk monitor, which sure sounds like a formula for frustration with the Sure View screen.

Good luck!
Jon

I bought one. Even though it says "Certified refurbished," the seller sneakily mentions "minor scratches and dents," and indeed mine had small dents and scratches. Mine also had a dead pixel. Seller offered 20$ . I rejected. I returned the laptop. It is 1000 nits for sure, but even at 100 sRGB the screen didn't look good

RAM is NOT soldered. However, reviews suggest the 16GB RAM is likely configured as a single channel leaving the second SO-DIMM slot open. This does leave some system performance on the table, but at the same time provides enough RAM for Windows 11 and a many typical applications (productivity, heavy browsing, eSports, etc.).
https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-...957.0.html

If you have access to a second 16GB DDR4 SO-DIMM you could potentially improve system performance. Unfortunately, the typical pricing for a single 16GB DDR4 SO-DIMM has gone well over $100 making it hard to recommend such an upgrade without qualification.

Good luck!

Two notes referencing the support document ( https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Ma...039667.pdf ):
  • Running 24GB with a 8GB and 16GB SO-DIMM isn't supported by HP
  • Dual channel operation generally requires reasonably matched DIMMs
The 24GB configuration would likely run without problem, but very few systems can get the benefit of dual channel performance improvements with DIMMs of different capacities. As such, the most practical option to get this system to run in dual channel operation is to add a second 16GB DIMM.

Good luck!
