Samsung's S90F OLED is drawing attention as a bright, colorful QD OLED TV that stands out for gaming, upscaling, and strong SDR and HDR performance. The 77 inch model is repeatedly described as the latest model year at a standout price, with some checkout totals landing around $1,530 before tax and lower after stacked discounts. Main tradeoffs are Dolby Vision support, Samsung's DTS and app quirks, and return or warranty hassles that can erase some of the savings.

  • The deal can stack with EPP discounts and additional promo mechanics, producing checkout totals around the low-$1,000s for some buyers.

  • The S90F can deliver more vivid, accurate colors and stronger upscaling for non-4K content than competing LG OLED models.

  • The S90F can be far brighter in Game Mode, which helps in brighter rooms during gaming sessions.

  • The 77-inch model can arrive with white-glove delivery and a damage warranty option, which can reduce purchase risk.

  • The coupon and promo codes can fail to validate for some education or partner accounts, preventing the expected discount.

  • Samsung's return logistics can be difficult, and return paths may be constrained depending on shipping versus pickup.

  • The built-in smart TV experience can be slow or problematic, including cases where uninstalling Samsung Plus is needed for normal functionality.

  • DTS passthrough can require an aftermarket audio extractor or splitter, which can limit DTS playback options compared with setups expecting eARC DTS.

This or Panasonic - 77" Z8BAP OLED 4K Smart, Fire TV, 144Hz HDR10+, One Box Cinema $1600.00 from Best Buy?
This is better.

according to Rtings.com; Samsung has more accurate and vivid colors, 50% brighter and superior upscaling for non 4K content, but not DTS passthrough; whereas LG has Dolby Vision, but more of a matte screen and less vivid/accurate, andhalf the number of nits. I chose samsung for the upscaling, but I have to buy aftermarket splitter/audio extractor to get DTS passthrough-- so no eARC for me.
The LG C5 OLED and the Samsung S90F OLED trade blows. They're about equally as bright in most HDR content, although the S90F is far brighter in Game Mode. In SDR, however, the C5 is way brighter. The S90F does handle direct reflections better, but the C5's black levels barely raise in bright environments, while the S90F's blacks become charcoal gray in the same context. The S90F's QD-OLED panel is far more colorful than the C5's WOLED panel, which is expected. They're about equally as good for gaming, although the C5's Dolby Vision support does give it the slight edge for Xbox gamers.

The nits would say the LG g5 is brighter unless it's in game mode.

This doesn't work for EDU accounts right? The code doesn't seem to discount anything. If I enter with a space at the end, I get a message saying it removed a previously selected offer. Help

Correct. Costco + 5 years = 1999.00; current deal, Samsung EDD + 4 years = 1929.99
Thanks for the comparison. I bought the Samsung at Costco yesterday and after reading your post have no regrets.

Yes better
My intention was to purchase the LG at Costco but the sales rep. talked me into the Samsung. One interesting fact that the rep. pointed out has to do with temperature. The LG screen gets quite warm while the Samsung is completely cool. Not sure if that means anything or not, but all things being equal I would choose cool over warm any day of the week.

I got the 77" for $1700 about 20 days ago. Does Samsung have price protection? 😟

Dolby Vision is noticeably better than HDR10+. It's such a silly opinion when people say they think Dolby Vision is overrated.
Now this is a silly opinion. Almost no one tries to claim Dolby Vision looks much better than HDR10+. They are absolutely nearly the same thing. The only real claims people make are:

1) Dolby Vision has much wider support than HDR10+. It's hard to find HDR10+ content basically anywhere, Dolby Vision is everywhere. Drastic difference.

2) That Dolby Vision looks a lot better than HDR10. But while this was definitely true on older OLEDs this is contested a lot on modern TV's to also be a minor difference

Yes in every way.
The Best Buy problem for me is the cost of an extended warranty. They wanted $450 for a 5 year, where the one from Costco is free. I actually purchased a 77" LG at Best Buy but had to pick it up at another store. Luckily, the store was right next to Costco. After I saw that I would save $450 by buying either the LG or the Samsung, I cancelled my Best Buy order.

Got the 15% EPP discount through PerkSpot and stacked the 10% coupon 25SOPDEC10 with no problem. Checked out with 24 monthly payments at 0% APR.
PerkSpot is only through employers right, no way for anyone to make an account?

Top of the line hardware with below average compatibility because of licensing disputes. Disappointing.

Most streaming services like apple tv or amazon prime support HDR+

Yeah the warranty isn't great compared to Costco. In my area these tvs come out close to the same rate if I were to get the tv with the best buy warranty or Costco black friday rate with the free warranty. I decided no warranty to save $. They are both amazing tvs. I have a 77 inch c4 already and now a QD-OLED.

Went with the c5 65" for my sister's tv, just over $1100 with free mounting and free soundbar. This is probably the better tv though.
