REL is the Bose of subs. They are the ONLY sub manufacturer I know of that wants you to run your speakers full-range alongside their subs (i.e. "Large" in your receiver settings) purportedly for "better integration" but that imo is just a sorry excuse for their subs being miserably underpowered and underperforming despite the deliberately inflated-to-impress pricetags. (Deliberately inflated prices plus cute-and-petite form factor is THE signature of all "lifestyle" products' marketing-driven design.)
The thing is, they're not wrong assuming you have actual full range mains. If you have a superior bass management, set the proper x over for the mains. I run 30 Hz on LR and 35 for the other 5.

I currently have the old PB-2000 (non pro) and want to add the RP-1400 for a 5.2.4 system with a onkyo rz-30 avr. Can I combine the two dissimilar subs?
If you are not pathologically OCD, yes.

Technically yes but not ideal.
You'll want to calibrate them & it will be to capabilities of the weaker one.

Especially if you use Dirac Live.
It does not include Dirac's subwoofer/bass correction/integration.
It will rely on the AVRs bass management to calibrate them into loudspeakers.

Importantly, two suns are almost always superior to a single one due to room acoustics and localized peaks and nulls.
I would add placement is critical, you can actually make peaks & nulls worse at the MLP.

Depending on your RC and or AVRs capabilities, you may have to calibrate them as one also.

I am very tempted to get a second RP-1400 but my old PB-2000 works just fine making it hard for me to justify. I have no other space to use the PB-2000 so it will just "collect dust" if I replace it with a second RP-1400. Curiously, I expected the RP-1400 to have better specs than the old PB-2000 because of the 14" vs 12" woofer. But on paper, they are similar.

Don't get him started again!

He's clueless about how that all works!

Apparently to him Trinnov,Room Perfect,Dirac's DLBC/ART bass management are useless & a scam!

All you need is an "entry level AVR" it's plenty close to them with bass management!!!

Your all holy "ART" is useless to the non-OCD normal folks, yes.

Room correction software is mainly useful for tuning subs. People with decent speakers and working ears who know how to position them correctly in a room (THE only "room correction" that is essential) know to limit it to Shroeder.

Those who are comically suggestible and prisoners of placebo effects will continue drinking industry Kool Aid just to masturbate their egos and burnish their "audiophile" self-image. You happen to be Exhibit A of that. Which is good for the economy in the grand scheme of things I suppose, so keep it up m'boy! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Sorry you keep letting yourself get fleeced, but if you just enjoy paying through the nose for that last trivial 5% โ€‹audible gain, knock yourself out.

Just don't drag unwitting newbies down into your pit of smug ignorance.
