TP Link Tapo mini smart plugs are a compact way to add energy monitoring, scheduling, and Alexa control to lamps, holiday lights, outdoor lights, heaters, and other 15 amp, 1800 watt devices. The schedules can keep running even if the home network or Alexa is down, and the plugs also work with the Tapo app and newer Sense energy monitoring support. The night light can be disabled or dimmed, and the small size fits tight spots behind furniture. The main caveat is that all outlets are front facing, so they do not solve side outlet clearance needs, and Matter support is not included.

  • These smart plugs can fit behind tight furniture spaces where a normal plug cannot fit.

  • These plugs support power monitoring and scheduling for voice control and timed lighting.

  • These plugs integrate with Alexa and can be controlled from a phone for outdoor lighting schedules.

  • These plugs can run schedules even when Alexa or home Wi‑Fi is down due to router power loss.

  • All six outlets are front-facing, so they do not provide side outlets for wall-hugging clearance.

  • The quick-start guide warns that power adapters or USB chargers under 75W may lack PFC and cause inrush current issues.

  • The advertised 25% Prime Card cashback may not appear at checkout and can show only 5% with the Prime Card.

  • Kasa and Tapo app compatibility is one-way, since Tapo devices do not show up in the Kasa app.

is there a way to turn off the night light feature? i would love this for certain bedrooms, but don't want a light as a household full of light sleepers.

No. Kasa items can be used in the Tapo app using the same account. But Tapo items don't show up in the Kasa app.

I have both apps on my phone.
interesting, and do these work with apple homekit?

How does that help the person who asked about something with side outlets so furniture can go against the wall? Not only are all 6 outlets front-facing on this, but none of them are energy monitoring.
Look again. They're energy monitoring... And I guess it depends on the type of furniture it's going behind... Mine is behind my couch without a problem 🤷

Yes, you can disable the night light. Or dim it to barely noticeable.

I found these many years ago and they are great for use with these kind of plugs and general spaces that will not allow a normal plug due to space.

I was referring to the 6-outlet smart strip that was linked in the comment I replied to. Nowhere on that page does it say that 6-outlet block does energy monitoring.

Maybe you are referring to the single outlet devices in this deal, in which case I agree they are energy monitoring. But the person in the comment I replied to asked for plugs with outlets on the side. Neither product has that regardless of whether your couch works or not.

Why 2.4G Wi-Fi Only?
5Ghz is a very short wavelength, which can barely penetrate drywall. It's pretty much line of sight only to the router. If you have furniture or walls in your house, 2.4Ghz is the way to go.

I always wondered how many amps can these things safely handle, like is putting small appliances on them safe to do?

These Tapo TP-link outlets are great. I like how they integrate into Alexa. The schedules actually work outside of Alexa even if the home wireless network is not working (eg. router has no power, router dead, etc).

I dont see 25% cashback at checkout, it says 5% with prime card
For me, it shows up as a separate line item underneath the item, not in the normal area where it still shows 5%.

under the item is "Additional reward details" https://imgur.com/a/XS4dzLu
