Why is that crazy? Objectively, people use their phone for much more than they do laptops these days. They take more photos/videos on their phone than they do on say a dslr/mirrorless and transfer them on a laptop. Nearly all office applications store their files in the cloud. And NAS/Cloud services are more popular these days than before which are, again objectively, better places to store files so the only need for local storage is applications, OS, and temp files for the most part.

Anyone buying a base model machine knows what they're getting. If you need more, get the model with more. Every time these threads pop up it's the same type of people complaining about storage/RAM. You're not the target audience for this machine, just like i'm not the target audience for a pink volkswagen beetle, difference is i'm not over there complaining about it.

indeed... probably the best widely-available deal in the history of computing, actually, if you consider the whole package and what all it's capable of. This and the $479 Mac mini are lightning fast systems with historically good value per compute, but this takes the cake when you consider the cost of quality peripherals and portability.

Connect an external SSD. This laptop was already a steal at $1000 ever since they added 16gb to the base model. At $750 it's probably the best deal in the laptop world. There's no windows laptop that compares, truly.

Absolutely. However, loyal customers will likely ignore this. The next March, when they release a new version, the baseline storage capacity will be 512GB. I believe they are currently clearing inventory. The same deep discounts were observed for 6GB RAM.

16gb offends me more than 256gbBut what offends me the most is that you can't upgrade yourself (without voiding warranty, etc.). Macs are great, but this is gouging customers in an ugly way. If my wife didn't use one there is no way I would pay the premium. I cannot seriously buy a 16gb/256gbSSD laptop for real use in December 2025.

I think laptops will come with 512 gb standard soon, but based on our metrics most people nowadays consume more storage on their phones than laptops (photos/videos). We no longer see mp3 or video collections on laptops like we did 10 years ago because of streaming.

I really DGAF about 256 vs 512. But I want 24RAM. And seemingly without a custom order which isn't on sale, It's not possible to be found for a 256 apparently.

It's crazy that the iPhone 17 starts with 256gb finally, and the MacBook still only starts with that amount. Maybe they will start with 512gb on the next model.
