Bought this when it was $30 from Walmart. Actually works very well.

Important to note that it's app only. There are no controls on the device other than a power button.

You do not need to pay subscription to use it unless you want wifi capability. It is free to use via the app/Bluetooth.

Overall it's pretty good but during a cook the app can struggle to refresh if you leave and come back to it so what I do is close out the app entirely and reopen and it has consistently connected after that. Not too bad of an issue but worth noting

these are great, easiest example is for meat- you're not boiling them, you're holding them at specific temps so that the proteins behave certain ways. e.g. 144°F chicken breast is more or less rare and safe to eat because it's been pasteurized, but the meat won't get stringy or tough because that's a side affect of being exposed to high heat.

great stuff- lots of kenji articles on serious eats about it. buying a couple of these to hand out as gifts, lol- annoying to have to use app to set it, but it's 20$ a pop which is less than aldi's cheapo SVs when they have them randomly.

I bought this recently, and just to clarify: a subscription is not required to use the sous vide. The app does promote a subscription, but one can navigate past it and use every function of the device without paying anything. It's a fully usable, no-cost experience as long as the app remains available.

This compact Anova Precision Cooker Mini is mainly praised as an easy entry into sous vide, with precise temperature control and solid results for steak, roast, lamb, eggs, and even reheating steak. The free app and Bluetooth control work without a subscription for basic use, and the $20 price with free shipping makes it feel like a strong starter deal. The main drawbacks are the app dependence, lack of physical controls, and the separate WiFi or full app subscription for extra features. It also needs a tall straight sided pot or container, so the mini name is a little misleading.

Common Questions (4)

  • It can hold precise temperatures for edge-to-edge doneness, such as 140°F for medium roast or 132°F for medium-rare steak, then you sear the outside. It's also used for chuck roast, lamb, chicken, pork chops, and reheating steak.

  • No subscription is required for basic cooking. The app can be used for free over Bluetooth to set temperature and time, while the paid plan is tied to Wi‑Fi/full app features such as scheduling and remote use.

    Mayt948JeremiahAg10nyg10ny

  • The unit has only a power button, so temperature and timer are set in the app. Basic operation still works without paying, but if the app stops being supported later, the cooker could become unusable.

  • Despite being called a mini, it still needs a tall vessel with about a 6-inch straight wall for the clamp to attach properly. A taller pot or an 8-12 qt container works better than a short 3-qt stock pot.

Bought and returned last time: devices job is to put you into their app (sales portal) where you cannot leave and come back without an attempt to upsell you on a subscription. TECHNICALLY works with Bluetooth only, but like I said it's job is to keep selling to you, actual functionality is janky as hell because it'll force you to reconnect contractor in order to put you through the upsell.

Good price, but keep in mind that new users will need to pay a monthly $10 subscription for the full app. If you are grandfathered in, great.
Holy crap $10 a month for a subscription to something like this. What a joke. Subscription to everything now a days is becoming disgusting. I don't care if you don't need to subscribe to use it with limited functionality in talking about this particular subscription is just ridiculous. Please no one entertain this BS and encourage it by actually subscribing

I was able to price match it to Best Buy and use $10 reward, so the final price came up to $10 with free shipping. Not too shabby

In fact I was wrong, it is $10 annually or $2/month.

Really disappointed that you need a subscription to have multiple units connected. Was hoping to have a second precision cooker, but I can only add one at a time without re-setting the unit. I won't be buying any more ANOVA products of any kind. If you like subscriptions, fine, but IMHO kitchen appliances should not need a subscription. Requiring a subscription for me to buy/use MORE of a company's product is just...dumb.

Wow, these things have gotten so cheap. I pretty much only use mine when cooking a huge hunk of meat like a prime rib before finishing in the oven though.
