This Sabrent USB C NVMe enclosure stands out as a sturdy, toolless aluminum case for turning spare NVMe drives into fast portable storage or a cloning drive. The Realtek RTL9210B controller, permanent thermal pad, and metal shell are praised for reliability and heat handling, and the enclosure works well with firmware updates and even off brand drives. It is also handy for swapping SSDs in and out. The main caveats are heat under heavy constant use, occasional disconnect or freeze issues on some setups, and speed limits on a 10 gigabit connection.
The enclosure can work well for cloning drives and transferring large files quickly.
The enclosure can dissipate heat effectively, and some SSDs keep it lukewarm during writes.
The enclosure can handle off-brand NVMe drives when other enclosures fail.
The enclosure uses a permanent thermal pad that avoids peel-and-stick pad limitations.
The enclosure can freeze or lock up on some systems until firmware is updated.
The enclosure may not reach advertised 10Gbps performance in real-world tests, depending on the SSD.
The enclosure can disconnect repeatedly, which may indicate a bad unit.
The enclosure can have sleep or wake issues on a Netgear router NAS setup.

is there a catch why this is worth twice as much other than aluminum vs plastic?
