The Casper Essential Pillow comes across as a soft, plush standard pillow that can work well for side and back sleepers, with enough support to keep necks aligned and a feel that stays firmer longer than some cheap pillows. It is also described as a decent value at the $9 price, especially compared with the original Casper pillows. The main drawbacks are that it is dry clean only, has no removable cover, and can get lumpy or feel too thick for some sleepers. The outer shell is also reported to be loud and plastic like, so it is a better fit if you want a simple, affordable pillow and do not mind extra care.

  • The pillow can be adjustable for comfort by removing some foam or using a different insert height.

  • The pillow can feel soft and cozy while still providing adequate neck support for alignment.

  • The pillow can stay fluffy or firm longer than some cheaper options after initial use.

  • The pillow can be workable for side sleeping because it is firm yet soft enough to scrunch.

  • The pillow is dry-clean-only, and that cleaning limitation can make stains hard to remove.

  • The pillow may not have a removable cover, which can increase the hassle of keeping it clean.

  • The pillow can feel too thick or uncomfortable for some necks until foam settles or is adjusted.

  • The outer shell can feel loud or plastic-y and may create a bothersome noise.

I have a neck issue and have searched for years for the perfect pillow. I have one family member that gives me a TJmaxx/Ross gift cards every year just to try pillows. I tried so many sealy, serta, raplh lauren tommy etc then purple, intellgel, my pillow, etc.
The best pillow I found, which I have used for over 6 months which has to be a record for me, is the coop orginal pillow (not the new memory ones, the orginal with the cross cut) . Usally pillows flatten or have less support over time. This pillow is the same as the day I got it. The orginal go for $50 on ebay new which I thought was expensive since I worried it was too similar to the my pillow concept, but it has been the best pillow I have owned. Best pillow for my neck by far.
I have this casper pillow, I didnt like it, my husband thought it was okay, but it is dry clean only. I was very disappointed in their customer service. I went to look up if there was any way to clean these without dry cleaning and several posts by users said contact customer service. My husband paid $30 for the pillow, so I thought I would do an online chat and ask. The person came on all nice and then found out it was the essential pillow and got super rude and said just throw it out and buy a new one. They said I should have bought the expensive one and the essential pillows are now disposable. They called me cheap. My husband paid $30 which I don't think it that cheap for a pillow (and the CS had the record since they verfied my purchase via amazon).
Thanks so much for this info, I've been dealing with neck pain for months and have been on this exact same hunt.

The best pillow I have is the Purple Harmony Pillow in Low Profile. Literally the perfect size for me.
I LOVE the Purple Harmony pillow also! but I started with the low one and I think after about a month, it was too low so I contacted them and they sent me a medium insert which is now the greatest thing! if my house was on fire, I would be grabbing my pillow before anything else LOL 😀

Pillows are subjective.
I love this Casper. It's King size so you need the right pillow case.

good pillow, great deal, German company
Made 'with' real down, 2 for the price of 1
reviews seem legit, maybe should be a front page slick deal, everything else along this priceline has less down and allergic reports

I posted a bit already but I would give this a 5 maybe 6 out of 10 if you are just looking for a general pillow and have no concerns like neck or back issues or pillow that you can use daily and last for years. I personally didn't like it but I have a neck issue and was looking for decent support and comfort. My husband who is not picky said this was a decent pillow, he used it as a primary pillow for 2-3 months and then slid it under another pillow and used it as what I would call a secondary pillow. The pillow stays fluffy or firmed longer IMO then the cheaper serta or sealt pillows that are under $10. I would probably pay $9 for this , certainly not the $30 my husband paid (I found out recently he paid that much less then a year ago). These pillows are dry clean only. Just last week while making the bed I knocked over a soda and it made a stain on the pillow. Customer service was rude and it really is dry clean only. CS told me that and I tried to clean it and spot cleaning didnt work, I tried my dry clean style at home bag for my washer and pillow is ruined. So if you get this have a great case on it? because they dont clean easily.
This is why I only drink vodka in bed, never cola. No stains. Except from the puke.

My tag says dry clean only and the customer service at casper (Customer service expert Melissa, I saved the transcript) said the polyester pillows are all dry clean only and all essential pillows are dry clean only. Not sure if target is wrong or maybe it is a different pillow style?

The Casper replies to customer reviews also suggest it is dry clean only. Does it have a removable cover?

No this one does not or the version of the essential pillow my husband got on amazon did not. I think the "high end" casper pillows do have a cover.

This is just a normal pillow but in a box (which I guess makes it feel a bit more fancy then the plastic covered pillows at Kohls/Tjmaxx/Macys etc)

I'm a big fan of the shredded memory foam style pillows that have a zipper to add or remove fill until it matches your personal preference. The most well known is the Coop brand but I bought a set of two knockoff brands from Amazon that I'm quite happy with.

Dry clean only for an item that gets dirty over time? Pass.

I bought this pillow 8 some years ago, I had to remove some of the foam because it was too thick for me, and propped my neck up uncomfortably. Woke up in the middle of the night, took some of the foam cuts out of the pillow went back to bed. Well after about a month when the foam sort of settled, I could see that it probably would have been an amazing pillow had I just broken it in for a bit.
