I suspect those gift memberships don't have the same "must be a new member" restrictions but I'm not certain.
edit: took a photo of the sign in store today with terms:
"*To recetive a Digital Costco Shop Card, you must have a vald email address. f you elect not to providk a valld emall address a Digital Costco Shop Card will not be emailed. Vaid only for members who purchase a 1Giftof Memnbership i in select participating Costcol locations Limit three per household. Nontransferable and may not be combined with any other promotion. Mernbers wto purchase the Gift of Membership will receive a Digital Costco Shop Card by email il within 2 weeks of sign-up. Costco Shop Cards are not redeemable for cash, except as required by law. I do not see any "new" requirement to get the $30 bonus. forgive the typos, I was lazy and used a photo to text capture

I don't really have other options other than waiting until later this year? It seems they do the 18 mo in purpose because you can't just keep swapping between you and the wife and you would need to be without a membership for a few months
am I missing something? TIA
