The IronWolf Pro 14TB stands out as a strong value for NAS storage, with a much better price per terabyte than smaller drives and a steep discount for an enterprise class HDD. It is also described as very quiet in some setups, even quieter than WD Ultrastar drives, and the helium filled model is listed at 20 to 26 dB. The main hesitation is noise and compatibility concerns, since other IronWolf Pro drives have been heard clunking loudly and the model is not on one Ugreen compatibility list. It is a solid capacity play if quiet operation and backup planning matter.

Common Questions (3)

  • It can be very quiet in a home NAS, with one report calling it extremely quiet and much quieter than WD Ultrastar DC HC530s. Another report describes 20/26 dB helium-filled operation, while a separate experience with IronWolf Pro 18TB drives says they were loud enough to hear throughout the house.

  • Yes, the deal works out to about $16.43 per TB, which is described as a decent price for an enterprise NAS HDD. It is also noted as better value per TB than a 4TB alternative and close to a prior 18TB purchase at $16.67 per TB.

  • A second drive is recommended if the data matters, because the drive is a single NAS disk and not a backup by itself. Essentials and offline hoards are worth backing up, while easily redownloaded items like Steam games may not justify duplicate storage.

isn't that what any smart person would do, with any brand.
I wouldn't. Essentials only are backed up like that. Things I'd be gutted if I lost. For me that is under 2 TB. Who cares if I need to redownload movies and games. It's an inconvenience but not worth double or in some cases triple backing.

Searching, downloading, sorting 10TB+ of data takes a lot of time, I would say that even then a backup is worth it, at least if it's data that is hoarded for offline use. For Steam games or other content that syncs itself I also would not care to have a backup though.

How do you get to the in-stock item?
I see the post says "Our links may go to a product variant that is out of stock or not included in this deal. Please use the available sorting options on the product page to select the available items on sale." But I haven't been able to figure out how to get this deal.

Wow, ordered this like 3 hours ago and just got a notification from UPS that it's being delivered tomorrow.

Also, not sure why this is marked as "expired". Still showing in stock for me and I can still add to cart.

I was just able to snag 1, but it didn't have enough stock for me to buy 2: maybe they're intermittently coming back into stock as shopping carts get abandoned.

Amazon has Western Digital 12TB WD Red Plus NAS Internal Hard Drive HDD - 7200 RPM, SATA 6 GB/s, CMR, 512 MB Cache, 3.5" - WD120EFGX for $220
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0...prod_image

BH has a Pro 10 tb version with a same price tag.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr..._10tb.html

Inspite of better SG warranty, just because the SG drives are louder than WD drives, I plan to return SG pro 14 tb and order WD red plus 12 tb for my home nas.

I bought 3x IronWolf Pro 18TB-ST18000NT001 drives last year for my NAS and totally regret it. They are LOUD. Clunk, clunk, clunk 24/7, which I can hear throughout the house with the NAS buried back in a closet. I hear them right now. It's a known issue but I rolled the dice and lost. Highly recommend avoiding these. Regardless, I bought 18TB at $299, $16.67/TB, and these are $16.43/TB, which is an okay deal, but nothing special.
I got mine from this deal a few days back and it seems extremely quiet for an enterprise NAS drive. Like WAY quieter than the WD Ultrastar DC HC530s which make up the rest of my RAID pool. I wish I had gone with these initially and I probably replace the HC530s with these when they fail, assuming it proves to be reliable.
