Hogwarts Legacy is a polished, immersive Harry Potter adventure that works well as a casual PC game, with strong castle atmosphere, smooth performance on modest hardware, and even achievements on Epic. The free Epic claim also includes the base game, and the Dark Arts expansion is discounted to $1.99, with a Fortnite Chocolate Frog Back Bling tied to two hours of play. The main drawbacks are its 90 GB install size and a later-game loop that can feel repetitive or vanilla, with some reports of checkout errors while Epic servers were overloaded. A solid way to grab the game if the claim page cooperates.
people who want to claim it on Epic during the free window because the checkout can be $0 with no special instructions once you can get through the swamped servers, and it's redeemable via web (launcher only needed later to install/play).
people who are okay with trying multiple attempts to redeem because Epic's servers can be swamped and commenters reported success after refreshing and even using different browsers/accounts (including redeeming via web/phone login).
Steam Deck (Linux) players who want to run it on handheld because commenters say it can play through Heroic Launcher using Proton.
families or casual players who want a straightforward playthrough because one commenter said they played it as a family and another said it's a fun casual game even if you aren't a Harry Potter fan.
PC players who want to mod later because commenters said it may be worth throwing on the Deck with some mods and that it should be fun to mod on PC after playing on console.
people who care about storage planning because the game requires about 90 GB of storage.
people who want a smooth, instant checkout because commenters reported checkout errors and that the offer can become unavailable right after being in the cart, requiring retries/refreshing.
players who dislike repetitive side content because commenters said puzzles/side stretches (like many Merlin trials) can get bland/repetitive and the game can feel "meh" quickly.
people who are trying to redeem repeatedly on the same Epic account because one commenter said their account couldn't download more free games and had to wait 24 hours before trying again.
people who only want the "castle/early" vibe because commenters said the early experience feels very Harry Potter-like, but the overall game is "vanilla" and not recommended by at least one reviewer.
people who want a fully stable open-world experience without fixes because commenters reported softlocks when wandering open-worldly and said mods were needed to fix them.
people who already tried it and disliked it enough to uninstall because one commenter downloaded, tried playing, and then uninstalled/deleted saying the game "sucks."

After 20 minutes of hell I managed to add it to my library.
Relax guy!!!!!
Decent enough game. Someone else mentioned it, and it does get a little blah during some stretches. I'm playing on easy mode for the story so it's pretty straightforward. The puzzles fizzle out a bit after a while (NINETY Merlin trials???), but it's worth a playthrough. It's on whatever middle package I have for PS5, but I think I bought a hard copy last year as well.
I'm not a fan of the books, did enjoy the movies (mostly). It's worth playing for sure.
But Mooooooom! That's Harry Pooper!

The castle part is cool at first and definitely feels straight out of a Harry Potter book/movie, but the overall game is as vanilla as can be. I finished the game because it wasn't too long but I wouldn't recommend it. I'd give it maybe a 7 or 7.5 out of 10 (where a 7 is generally the lowest rated game I'd ever spend my time on).

plus it has a lot of softlocks if you decided to wander around and do things open-worldy at the time I played it, and those required mods to fix.
Honestly btw this and the Indiana jones game they were both really great at the immersion aspect
