Edit: They're giving away 17 games this year, through New Year's Day. Here's the schedule (according to GG.deals at least): https://gg.deals/freebie/17-epic-...s-in-2025/

Hogwarts Legacy is a polished, immersive Harry Potter adventure that works well as a casual PC game, with strong castle atmosphere, smooth performance on modest hardware, and even achievements on Epic. The free Epic claim also includes the base game, and the Dark Arts expansion is discounted to $1.99, with a Fortnite Chocolate Frog Back Bling tied to two hours of play. The main drawbacks are its 90 GB install size and a later-game loop that can feel repetitive or vanilla, with some reports of checkout errors while Epic servers were overloaded. A solid way to grab the game if the claim page cooperates.
The free Epic offer can be redeemed through a browser, and the launcher is only needed later to install and play.
The game can run on a Steam Deck using Heroic Launcher and Proton, which broadens PC handheld compatibility.
The free Epic version includes achievements, which adds extra progression beyond just finishing the story.
Auto-optimize can set the game to medium and run it smoothly even without a dedicated graphics card.
Epic servers can become swamped right when the free title goes live, which can require waiting a day or two for access to normalize.
Checkout can fail and the offer can become unavailable after being in the cart, which can block claiming during the free window.
The gameplay can feel repetitive after stretches like many Merlin trials, which can reduce long-session enjoyment.
Redeeming can require multiple attempts across different browsers or accounts, which adds friction to claiming successfully.

It's an alternative. Need to download the Epic Games Launcher, create an account, and you can redeem the game. Right now the servers are crashing so I'd wait a day.
