This Game Pass Essential code is mainly attractive for stacking time or converting into Ultimate, but the redemption math is the big catch. The code has been reported to turn into about 3 months for current Ultimate subscribers, while a fresh redemption can extend Ultimate to 90 days or convert to Essential time if support adjusts it. The official conversion rate is also being cited as 40 percent for Ultimate, which makes the value hard to pin down. It is a workable way to add subscription time, but the final result depends heavily on the account state.
The conversion process can be handled through Xbox support to reach 12 months of Essential coverage.
Redeeming the code can extend an existing Game Pass Ultimate end date forward.
A step-by-step conversion workflow can help manage timing by turning off auto-renewal and waiting for Ultimate to expire.
Essential can reduce ongoing costs for players who only use a few games and want to avoid Ultimate features.
The 12-month Essential purchase can convert to roughly 3 months of coverage instead of the expected duration.
Essential may limit console multiplayer voice and chat access, pushing some players to pay additional Microsoft fees.
Conversion timing can come out shorter than the 40% estimate, with some conversions landing a little over 90 days.
Applying the code while already subscribed to Ultimate can convert to GPU instead of a lower tier.

I recall the Suncoast store in the local mall sold vhs movies for $80. I believe Waldenbooks might have as well at similar prices. I do recall owning the Batman movie as a kid so that might have been when some vhs movies started to become more affordable. But probably most were not affordable until the mid 90s. Going purely off of memory, and then that was short lived when dvds came out which were affordable immediately. VHS tapes though...not so much.

When I worked at Hollywood Video in the 90s, new VHS tapes cost the company $80–$100 each. The business model depended on renting them out enough times to recoup the cost, then selling the "previously viewed" copies for $10–$20 depending on the title.
DVDs didn't just disrupt rental chains — the studios did. People blame Netflix, but that was only the final blow. Once studios slashed rental windows, sometimes releasing DVDs to retail the same day, the old 60–90‑day exclusivity that kept Blockbuster and Hollywood Video alive disappeared.
At the same time, store costs climbed. Rentals got more expensive, used discs got cheaper, and customers naturally chose to buy a movie for $15–$20 instead of renting it for $4–$5 plus inevitable late fees.
Single player titles don't require a subscription. However, many games are focusing more on the online multiplayer experience, and not putting much effort into the single player game and story experience..

At $5.16/mo I think it'll probably the cheapest I can buy to stack 3 years and not have to worry about playing online since most of the games I play are multiplayer.
