This Visa virtual eGift card deal is mainly useful for stacking with cashback promos and for flexible online spending. The fee waiver can drop the usual $5.95 checkout charge, and the card has been used for Amazon-linked offers, Discover quarterly bonuses, and minimum spend padding. It can also work for bills and some subscriptions, including T Mobile and ComEd. Limits and acceptance vary by checkout, though, with one discounted card per order and some sites rejecting the card.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can stack with Discover quarterly 5% back and with some Amazon-linked or Alexa-related promos, and one checkout example also used Amex Reward Dollars plus 1 cent in points. Reported totals ranged from about $90 to $69.99 depending on the stacked offer.

  • Common uses include meeting credit-card minimum spend, paying for trial or one-time subscription signups, and creating a small balance for card-validation purchases. It is also used to keep spending separate with single-use or spend-limit cards.

  • It can work for some online purchases and bill payments, but not every website accepts it. It failed on Starbucks.com, worked on Costco.com, and was reported to pay a T-Mobile cell phone bill and a ComEd electricity bill without issues.

  • Only one discounted card is allowed per order, but multiple cards can be bought by placing separate orders. One report also says the $5.95 fee waiver applied to physical cards too, with no stated limit.

  • The $5.95 fee should come off at checkout unless the offer is targeted. A worked checkout example showed the fee removed and the total dropping to $99.99 before any extra discounts or points.

Anywhere visa is accepted Wink

I don't know either. I suppose some people think it's anonymous (it isn't really, maybe from your wife but not your government) and buy their online peepshows with 'em.
with a username like that I suspect someone is speaking from experience lol

People are using this to get other credit card cashback promotions. Some cards get 5% cashback for shopping at Amazon and there are also targeted promotions offering up to $30 cashback if you link your card to Amazon and then use your existing cashback to pay for the purchase.
TBH - keeping track of a new virtual card number and balance seems like a lot of effort to me for a $5 statement credit, but to each their own.

In addition to the previous replies, some people will use promos like this to fulfill minimum purchase requirements for credit card intro bonuses. "Spend $3,000 in the first three months and get $250" and the like. This specific one isn't super useful for that since it's limited to one GC per transaction, but it's common to see people spend $2K+ when Staples waives the fee on their Visa GCs.

I have a couple friends who will sign up for new cards the same time every year because they know they'll have big purchases to fulfill those requirements. Stuff like this can help fill that out while also earning base points/cash back.

It's only a deal if you have a credit card that will give you cash back
Like Discover is offering 5% back on Amazon purchases.
That being said, yes this is penny pincher material.

Privacy is much easier, just set up single use cards or spend limit cards. I do that with every subscription in case they decide to change the price on me.
